Opensubtitles.org not working in media playing programs

    Hi folks

just seems to have happened in the last few days
I can't get subtitles via opensubtitles.org any more when playing content say using KODI etc - even content from my own NAS.

It always comes back saying usename / password invalid or empty.

I've logged on to the site -- absolutely no problem -- not isp blocked etc etc --anybody else got this problem.

I do like the subtitles especially as a lot of modern films etc have usually bonkersly loud music / special effects and very quiet or mumbled dialog.

One can still get subtitles via the "elephantine way" --retrieve via the internet from the opensubtitles.org and save on NAS as a local subtitle when playing the media - but that's hideously inconvenient -- the original method just allowed you to search and get the subtitle direct while playing the media --very good for TV series boxed sets etc.

    Cheers

My experience: If a VPN connection is active, I get the same credentials issue than you with OpenSubtitles. Close Kodi, kill VPN connection, relaunch Kodi, no issues.

    Hi there @Kari

fixed now after trying all sorts of things I went for the "classic" kill everything and start from scratch !!!!

-- totally installed version Kodi v18.3 - removed all cookies, cache and data and re-installed (IMO the best and most stable version) 17.6 (krypton) as it seems to play videos far more smoothly than any settings I can get on 18.3 Leia) --installed again the opensubtitles.org plugin and after entering credentials -- it's working again --hurrah -- I really do appreciate subtitles for a load of stuff these days --I'm not going deaf but the modern sound mixing seems to be hideous - especially when loud music is being playerd while actors are "mumbling" their lines --have no probs with classic old movies with sound etc !!!!

Anyway all fixed so marking as solved

BTW if you have an amazon firestick type of device you cam lopad KODI on to that easily as well -- use an android mobile phone ,install on android (use the 64 bit arm version for android mobiles) and then simply use apps2fire to remote install on your firetv type device. Instructions are easy - ensure the phone can connect with the fire tv stick via the firesticks local lan address.

I'm using my own domain as a "VPN" - that always works wherever I am in the event of ISP blocks - but I think the site isn't ISP blocked (at least not yet where I am )!!

    Cheers
