Handing downloaded Usenet folders that appear empty.

I could use some help dealing with usenet download folders. Sometimes these folders download and open without any problem, however, the last show I downloaded came in with folders that appear empty. I have played with them using 7-Zip and have been successful 3 times, but I can't reproduce my results. I know that my show is there but it isn't showing anywhere and I can't remember how I decompressed, etc. to get to it. I'm using Newshosting usenet client and Windows 10 on my PC. Can't someone help, please?

Its showing the folder is empty 0 bytes what are you downloading ie txt, films, photos? Some downloads may go to a different folder as some save photos to one place and films to another they may go to system folders like download my docs etc

Thanks for your reply, Samuria. The download is video and all my usenet downloads are specifically directed to the same folder. They all get there, as some of them open without any problem. And I was successful in retrieving my show from 3 other folders, even though they showed "empty."

Did the file appear to be complete when viewed in your newsreader, with no missing parts?

Did you refresh that particular newsgroup so as to ensure you can get all of the currently available parts of that file?

    Have you tried another newsreader?

Do you have access to another Usenet service provider that also carries that newsgroup?

Thanks, ignatzatsonic...How do I refresh a newsgroup? Have not tried any other newsreader as Newshosting is both a reader and a provider. And I don't understand enough about usenet to get more confused with another provider. I did go through all the downloaded files in my McCloud downloads and have found some interesting differences as follows...the first group 4-04 had nothing but empty files inside...the second group 4x04-1 did have content. This difference is not consistent, however. Hope these help. Oops, I messed up the attachments...I'll try again.

I used Usenet a lot 10 to 20 years ago, but not much since, so I am not as savvy on it as I once was.

"Refresh" is another name for update. It just means some way of viewing and obtaining the currently available files within any given newsgroup. The method varies by newsreader, but I'd expect it to be from menus or right clicks. Normally, it's done group by group---you can update this group but not that group.

What's the name of the newsgroup in which your shows appear? Maybe I can find them from my provider.

What exactly is "McCloud"? The Dennis Weaver TV show? Again, in what newsgroup?

    You say:

"And I was successful in retrieving my show from 3 other folders, even though they showed "empty."".

That's confusing, but the fact that you did it implies it can be done again with your problem file if you could remember the method.

Notice in your last picture how those "regret" files are numbered in consecutive order, with no missing numbers. If there was a missing number, that might cause an error and prevent you from joining the separate parts into a playable file.

But I can't explain why some folders appear empty. What makes you think anything actually downloaded at the time??? Even though in some cases you say you were able to "retrieve" your file.
