How to get HP Support Assistant off my Taskbar?

    Howdy,

A few weeks ago I had to get a new computer (HP All-in-One 24-f0137c) and HP Support Assistant (HPSA) came with it.

I do like HPSA because it is an easy way to check on the various HP updates that come available so I don't want to completely get rid of it. However, I really don't like it living on my Taskbar. I can get rid of it temporarily by unclicking it under the Taskbars' Toolbar section. But, once I reboot it comes right back.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks and regards,

Try this. Open HPSA, go to settings in upper right side. Scroll down to "choose how you'd like to be notified" and uncheck "display an icon in your taskbar". Save the change.

    This might also work.
Unlock the taskbar. Unpin HPSA from the taskbar. Lock the taskbar.

This would work if the HPSA icon's on the left side of the taskbar with the program icons. They have a "right click unpin" option. From what @2harts4ever is describing, I suspect the HPSA icon is on the right side near the system icons, like on my machine. The HPSA icon, in that location, does not have an "unpin" option. This is what I get …

And as reported, unchecking the HP Support Assistant Quick Access only removes it temporarily. It will return after a restart.

Open HP website > support > software and drivers https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers > enter product or serial number > select operating system > view drivers, software, BIOS > identify HP support assistant > download to desktop > uninstall HP support assistant > reinstall HP support assistant

Hi all. Unless I'm not reading the original post correctly, it seems to me that @2harts4ever is not having any issues with HP Support Assistant and doesn't want or need to uninstall and reinstall. I think the goal is to keep using the program, just getting rid of it from the taskbar. Post #2 shows how. If I'm wrong, I sincerely apologize.

    It is unneeded bloatware.

There are three HP software available for business models to regularly check for updated drivers, software, BIOS, etc.
For consumer models there is typically the HP support assistant.
Usually when software is installed the end user has options to check and uncheck for quick launch, save to desktop or taskbar, etc.
So when there are problems instead of troubleshooting current software it may be more efficient to uninstall and reinstall and choose options upon re-installation.

I was actually thinking that just now. You beat me to it. I appreciate the comments.
