Give program all defaults on 1709+

    Hello,

I'm trying to give specific programs all its defaults.

Prior to 1709 you could access the old UI with the below in run.

    control /name Microsoft.DefaultPrograms /page pageDefaultProgram

But that doesn't work from 1709+, seems they have completely removed the old UI and in the new UI they have removed (or never had) the "set all defaults" option.

So is there any other way I can give a program all its defaults?

    Hello NuMs,

If it helps any, option 6 in the tutorial below to Set defaults by app would be the new way to do that Control Panel method.

    Heya Brink,

Problem with that is I'd have to go through each file type 1 by 1 and set them, the functionality I'm looking for is the "Set all defaults" button that was available in the UI, that would set the program as default for all filetypes it could open.

That must be a recent change as I remember doing it not long ago. Too bad as it was a real useful feature. I used it with VLC Media Player a lot.

Yeah, it would be nice to have a check box to set for all file types there.

This would be something good for everyone to send feedback to Microsoft on to help make them aware of a wanted feature.
