How to Add a Portable Program to "Open With" in Windows 10

I have a downloaded program in my Downloads folder, a "portable" app.

It's availabe in Open With, if i click "Choose another app".

However, the Open With menu doesn't remember it for the future-- i always have to go to "Choose another app".

How can i add it to the Open With menu, so i don't have to click "Choose another app"?

    thx

Depending on the files it opens you could go to settings apps and make it the default
    program for that type file.

Or when the open with menu comes up check the box always open this type file

You could add an 'Open with' entry at the beginning of the right click menu...

yes, that's my fallback, if i can't find how to add to the actual 'Open with' menu.
here's a registry method for notepad, not sure it will work with a portable app. They don't include path.
Add "Open with Notepad" to right-click context menu

This example has the full path, seems better for a portable app.

Take a look at this Tutorial Choose Default Apps in Windows 10 from Shawn @Brink

It should just be a case of adding the .Exe file to the existing list - the fact that it has no Windows related "Baggage" should actually speed up the process

Did you check out Option Two, Step 2 and / or Step 3 ?

start with one file format and you can point this to your Application and set it to always open with ...

If you have more than one file type you want to add the application to the Open With Context Menu then you will need to repeat

Which is what I understand you are trying to do

I don't want to browse to it every time. Thx, but that solution doesn't help.

Thx @Callender, OpenWithAdd registry hack is the functionality i seek. But that's for Windows Vista or XP. That works for you on 10?
