Unable to set .pdf to Acrobat as default

I go to associate a file type and try to set .pdf to open in Acrobat but it won't change from 'Unknown Program'.

Yes I have set Acrobat to have all its defaults.

I have the same problem with images and setting to always open with xnview.

Is MS trying to force me to use its apps? I am a heartbeat away from restoring to Windows 7 Pro.

Not an answer, but does Windows show you that Acrobat would have "all defaults"? I see a similar issue on my PC, where although I hit the "give this program all defaults" button, the number of associated defaults just will not change. Also manually selecting one file type or another and hitting "make default" does not change that. Is that the problem you have or did setting the defaults work (at least according to the default programs screen)?

It's a moot point. I have reverted back to Windows 7 Pro. This OS is not ready for prime time.
