CCleaner: Free vs. Paid version

Driver updaters are even more insidious --they are usually "Sneakerware" I.e they say we´ve found an update for your machine but you need to "Go PRO" i.e update to the paid version or you have to pay to access that area of the website. Drivers are invariably available without charge from the vendor's hardware site.

If you have any trouble finding out what the hardware is

just in the control panel-->system--device manager

right click say on a piece of hardware then properties then events

you'll see a \ven etc piece of text

In this case I know what the hardware is but the method also works when you get the "dreaded Unknown Device" !!!!!



use that as a search and you'll get the hardware and vendor id. "Seempleees"

I LOATHE sneakerware even more than the scammers -- at least with scammers you know are being ripped off but these driver sites are hideous as they trap all sorts of people into paying for stuff that is free and easy to find.

Yes, the responses answer my question. I was thinking the Pro version of CCleaner would not display the ads but I wanted to confirm. And I always update my software manually, avoiding driver and software update programs. Thanks!
