    CCleaner: Free vs. Paid version

Does the paid version of CCleaner suffer from the privacy issues, pop up ads, bundled software in the installer, like the CCleaner browser? Or are these issues related to just the free version? In other words, does anyone use the paid version and can confirm whether or not it is clean?
    Thanks!

No ads/pop-ups/etc. in the paid version. All options are available to tell CCleaner to shut up and just do it's job.

    Hi there
My impression these days of those types of programs are that they are just snake oil -- Windows itself does a reasonable job and provided you always take backups / images of your system you shouldn't have any problems -- If you install programs that don't have a decent uninstall option then you should be sure to backup your system even more -- I'd avoid any program that can't be uninstalled via normal windows processes anyway.

In years of using Windows I've never needed this type of program.

    Cheers

That's fine, Jim, has nothing to do with his question.

The Pro version also has the built in updater which means less work. I bought the Pro before Avast got their hands on it.

    Just chiming in...

The updater is flawed. I would disable/not use it.

Substitute this instead - free version - portable -

I am not talking about the software updater, I'm talking about the ccleaner updater.

Oh, OK. Guess I misunderstood, but the information is worthwhile nonetheless.

Yes. That's why any driver updates that I install come direct from the vendor.

I don't trust any program for that.
