two types of Linux CLI are installed. How to remove?

uinstalling ubuntu and removing WSL is easy. but if enabling wsl and installing ubuntu, i get to square one.

so do I need to remove them and just avoid typing bash in CMD?

I think also in WSL2 there's facilities to install Linux distros other than those in the store.

Using VM's for WSL is far easier than trying to untangle distros / bash / wsl. Just keep a Fresh VM -- copy this and then test what you want -- when finished just delete --next test copy the fresh VM re-enable WSL and "do your stuff".

If using VMWare though when booting a copied VM check the I MOVED it box rather than the I Copied it box at first boot otherwise you'll get activation problems. If you say I copied it a new machine UUID is created which Windows activation treats as a new machine. (VBOX probably has some similar feature to keep the same UUID for a VM.

latest windows 10 has 'sandbox' feature, might try that before committing to anything.

Not far off and thanks for the help.

I didn't require to backup the entire system.
Removing Ubuntu and WSL is effortless and safe to do so.

As long as I don't type 'bash' in CMD, then I'm good.
I cannot confirm I don't have two types of bash since I didn't type 'bash' :)

But I did remove WSL and Ubuntu and reinstalled them back (after a restart), and just launched Ubuntu.

I also set the properties file of the new Win10 Terminal to open Ubuntu.
A quick 'sudo apt update' and I'm good to go.
