    Photo Shop Elements 9

Why is it that when I open PE9 directly, it opens perfectly full screen and easy to see text. But If I double click on am image for it to open in PE9 the text is so small I can hardly see it. Adobe help and support are useless.

I have some potential thought on this. Could you tell me first if you have a high DPI monitor? If you could tell me the size of your monitor and the resolution, that would be all I need. I'm thinking of some issues related to very high resolution, such as 4k resolution, especially on smaller monitors.

yes its a 4K 28 inch ASUS monitor. As I said, when I open PE9 it opens full screen and with perfectly readable text/buttons. vision. But when I enter via ccking on a pic I want to edit, its still full screen but VERY tiny text and buttons. I use the display cable option, as opposed to HMDI.

I don't have Photoshop Elements so I cannot guarantee that this will help, but it's definitely something to try...

Locate the executable or the shortcut that you use to run Photoshop Elements. Right-click the executable or shortcut and select properties. Go to the Compatibility tab. Select Change high DPI settings. Select "Override high DPI dcsling behavior. Scaling performed by:" to check this box. Choose "System". Click on OK, then OK again.

    Test Photoshop Elements once again.

If that does not work, try settings other than "System" to see if any of them help. When I have an app that doesn't handle high DPI well, the "System" option is the one that usually helps me.

the first is opening pe9 from the desktop icon - just as I like it, and the second is opening from an image, you can see the difference in text size etc. By the way hse; system is the only setting I normally use but checking against the others, no go.

Maybe the only way to go is to open PE9 first then navigate to image.

    Hi there

Same problem in Photoshop itself -- the problem is basically caused by Sloppy Programming using fixed pixel sizes etc for these things instead of dynamic re-scaleable stuff -- even using the Windows feature - where you can increase the scale of text etc (use personalisation section in Windows settings) doesn't always work on these types of programs.

A lot of the code was written when VGA (640 X 480) was a norm for monitors --I don't think the developerds ever had the luxury of nice big 4K UHD monitors !!!!

However running this stuff in a Windows VM for me gets round the problem as I can re-size the VM window anyway (or even run full screen).

    Cheers

Photoshop Element 9 was released in Sept. of 2010 so I'm not sure what support you expect when the latest version of Photoshop Elements (PE) is 2019. The last linear numbered version was PE 15, released in Oct. 2016.

Anyway, I can’t speak for Photoshop Elements, but I can speak for Photoshop CC (Creative Cloud) when I say recent versions (2-3 years ago) no longer display this behavior with 4K monitors.

As to why PSE9 is doing what it's doing and how to fix, I don't know. I just know where talking about a 9 year old piece of software that's no longer supported.

BTW I used to have the same issue with Photoshop CC a few years back on my Lenovo laptop with its 14 inch screen resolution of 2560 x 1440 before Adobe fixed the issue a few releases back.

I think its problem solved. I went into an adobe forum and selected PSE. Told them the problem and got a adobe reply to change setting in properties as per the games problems I had. It sort of worked. Anyway, as soon as I told him it was PSE9; he said problem solved, it does not have capability to operate on large res monitors. Mine is An ASUS 28 inch 4K. So, I am going for PSE Premium 2019 for £47 direct from adobe via Amazon.
