    Windows 10 and Classic Start

I have installed Classic Start into Windows 10.

My problem is that I cannot pin programs to the Classic Start Start up.
When I attempt to pin a program to Classic Start it pins itself to the original Windows 10 Start on the desktop.

    Any way around this please?

Classic Start or Classic Shell. Classic Start is better known as Open Shell. In either case, make sure you are clicking the correct one. There are 2 right-click options for pinning to "start". Use the yellow one, NOT red. Mine say Open Shell, yours may say Classic Shell.

Classic Shell 4.3.1 works very good for me. YMMV.

    f14tomcat,

Did what you suggested and everything was as you said - all working fine.
When I went back later, when I click on start, the Windows 10 startup shows and not the Classic Start??
    Where has Classic Start gone??

Looks like you just need to adjust the settings under Control tab to tell it what to do. Default when you click the Start Button bottom left of Taskbar is to go to the Windows default tiled start menu. Just play with it. Here are my settings, if you want to dup them for testing. I like to "hover" the mouse cursor on the button for the default to display Classic, click to get the MS flavor.

    Just chiming in -

I'm a bit surprised that the original Classic Shell works so well on 1903 after all this time without being updated.

Does anyone have any problem with Classic Shell on 1903? How does Classic Start differ?

    Thanks.

They are functionally almost identical. I couldn't tell you the minute differences. Some say that Open Shell has some Skin issues with oddball skins and settings....some say Classic will crash under strange circumstances, don't know what they would be. Open Shell has some more up to date dll's for newer kernel. Bottom line is whatever you prefer. Choice. One is not drastically different from the other. Many will post "works fine here!", and many will say the same for Open. Only the devs know what deep down mods have been made.

It's really a matter of choice what you are used to, feel comfortable with, prefer to recommend, etc.

There is no right or wrong answer.

There is already a 761 post long thread that's been running now for about 100 years.

Classic Shell no longer in development, and now open source

Debate could go on ad infinitum..........

    Well...

If Classic Shell works for me (at the moment) than I'll leave it.

    Cheers.
