Dispay file name, size, and directory path all on one line?

I'm looking for a dir replacement that will accept wildcard file name arguments, does recursive searching like the /s parameter, AND does a one-line display like:

    filename.type SIZE DATE Full_Path_Name.

I have all these application files, over 400, scattered over different directories on Drive C: and D:, and I need to be able to review them, for each filename, to ID the most complete version of each file. That isn't necessarily the newest version.

    Thanks,

Something like this? (Various output lists formats available).

    Search is very fast.
Dispay file name, size, and directory path all on one line?-1.jpg

Everything by voidtools may do something similar. Certainly fast search.

    Both freeware.

Thanks, Dalchina. Ultrasearch is probably the ticket for me because it includes export options. That way, I can do an import to Excel, which would give me sorting options.

    Dalchina,

I just tried out Ultrasearch, including the option to export to Excel. Fantastic. I'm one happy camper.

    Solved.

    Hi there.

even good old dos command will do it -- simply output to a .txt file and open in Excel !!!! no need for extra software whether free or not if -- I try and stick wherever possible to bog standard Windows / Ms software unless an alternative e.g like Macrium for backup) is obviously demonstrably superior to any built in version or if the facility doesn't exist in Windows.

Keeping Windows as much bog standard as possible saves real problems with the OS -- for major tinkering I have a load of Linux systems which I can break to my hearts content -- repairing / re-installing Linux is a synch, however repairing / re-installing Windows systems is a real pain especially when you need to hunt down license keys and mess around with re-activations.

Of course in any case you should backup Windows regularly in case things go wrong.

I do play a bit with a Windows2Go system which is easily re-creatable or have a load of Windows VM's but in general messing around with Windows is a good exercise in wasting time for little reward !!!!! at least in my experience.

    Cheers

    I couldn't agree more!!!!
And nowadays Powershell is a modern great alternative tool, which offers great flexibility and tons of features. Its problem: new learning cycle, but it can be overcome by the millions of web pages helping out with every problem... just Google for it!

Neither CMD nor PS provide 'instant' results...but 'quick' ones.
On the other hand they work online and don't add index files anywhere and will always be working natively.
It's up to the user to clutter his/her PC with "easier-to-use" software, which at a point of time might present incompatibilities and/or other issues. But that is a choice and is fully respected!

Once upon a time an OS was an operating system, and provided a level of abstraction from the hardware and very basic utilities. People then used programs- applications- which performed particular tasks- applying the computer to a particular task.

I find it interesting that applications may now be regarded as 'clutter', although too many of them certainly could.

Further applications with a GUI provide another layer of abstraction, providing features that are usable without a manual, reference sheet or a good memory.

I suppose you might allow someone to install an Office suite, even though Windows has Notepad and Wordpad?

But as you say, it's all a matter of choice- some may remember the good old days of UNIX...
