    Shell Menu New

One of Nir Sofer's brilliant and helpful utilities. Controls what's displayed on the context menu New section. Personally, I only want Shortcut and Folder but MS slaps all office programs in there frequently.

In the File menu There is a Save Selected Items choice which opens an explorer window and asks for a name. Good, I thought. But I can't find any way to use the saved data. Like click on it and have it restore my previous selections.

    Have I missed something?

Hi, I agree. If you look at the file saved, it's not something you can use.

Properties in Shellmenunew shows the same, but fields are view only, so can't use those either.

Yes, I left a message at Nirsoft. But no response. Perhaps this was an idea that never got fully implemented.

Instead of using a third-party utility, I use a reg file to delete the entries I do not want from context menu, New and then I restart explorer**.

I've posted my reg file for inspiration.ContextMenuRemovals.reg

You'll see my Office references in there. The .12 used refers to Office 2007 and I think you'll find it easy to find the equivalent keys for your own version of Office.

I have never used that particular NirSoft utility but the saved file shown by dalchina identifies the Registry key within which is the relevant ShellNew entry. So you could use the set of those saved files to put together a reg file like mine but tailored for your own needs.

I find that, having put together the reg file, I can easily & very quickly get back to the context menu, New that I want if OS or application chnages resurrect any unwanted entries.

** Only one particular entry in my reg file necessitates Explorer restart so I have preceded the line with "This is the only one that needs Explorer restart afterwards"
