    similarities and differences program needed

I need a "similarities and differences" program to to note both, preferably
    side by side.
Such as comparing folders Windows and windows.old
Going through 100,000 files by hand is slow going.

    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

    You could try Winmerge (free)
WinMerge - You will see the difference…

It says this on folders (part of the list of functions)
    Folder Compare

    • Regular Expression based file filters allow excluding and including items
    • Fast compare using file sizes and dates
    • Compares one folder or includes all subfolders
    • Can show folder compare results in a tree-style view
    • 3-way Folder Comparison Work in progress

    For more: use Google
    best folder comparison program freeware
