That's what I was just realizing this evening - the fact that at some point in the last 4 years MS decided to include Internet Explorer - I suppose as a backup for certain users. And so the mystery is solved! Microsoft Money now works in Win10, simply because MS pushed IE onto Win10. Because MS decided to stop all support for Microsoft Money, the program was never rewritten to accept anything other than IE.
I am pleased to learn that MS decided to bring back IE for certain users/applications. And if I had known MS pushed IE to WIn10 at some point over the past 4 years, I might have went ahead and upgraded from Win7 to Win10 long before this past weekend.
At any rate - I am pleased Win10 now plays 'nicely' with Microsoft Money. In my opinion, it was (and still is) the best checkbook program. I've got about 20 years of data in the Money files; and it is my intention to keep on using Microsoft Money for managing my checkbook as long as possible. Imo, you can't beat the ease and simplicity of the program.
Thanks for the posts here

I could be wrong, but I think the US version of Microsoft Money Sunset (the final US version in 2010) (after MS retired MS Money)..... only does the basics. But that is all I've ever really needed it for. I love the simplicity and ease of use of this simple little program for managing my checkbook. Let's just hope that Microsoft doesn't pull the plug on IE because we know it is a critical piece in order for MS Money to continue to function.
Of course, the future of MS Money will also be contingent upon the banks in offering the export files that we need for reconciling accounts. But since Quicken continues to offer their own paid version - hopefully the banks and credit unions will continue to offer export files.
But MS Money always was (and is) my favorite.
PS - I'm just curious - does anyone know (the general time frame) when Microsoft put the last version of IE onto WIn10? Obviously - it wasn't included on the original release version of Win10 back in 2015 - which led to all those posts from people who couldn't use MS Money as a result of it.

MS Money is fine for managing all types of account including shares and funds.
IE has always been present in Windows 8 and 10 and is an option under Windows features which you can choose to enable or disable. If IE is ever removed, I can always run Money in an XP virtual machine for which I have an old licence.
Good to know IE was always an option to activate in Windows 10 for legacy programs. My guess is that Microsoft did this (primarily) for the benefit of enterprise users.
I guess all those posters back in 2015 (who couldn't get MS Money to work in WIn10 correctly) didn't have IE activated in their version of Win10 and were unaware about procedures to do so via Control Panel.
Been using Microsoft Money UK 2005 for over 10 years without any problems on Windows 10. My laptop recently did a Windows update to v1803 and I haven't been able to start MS Money since then. If I click on the Money icon, I get the Windows spinning blue circle for a few seconds, and then goes back to idle without launching MS Money. If I double click the icon, a popup appears with 'Money is already running', but it doesn't launch and there is no MS Money process in task manager.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Money, tried updating the mnyob99.dll file etc., but nothing seems to work. I've installed MS Money UK 2005 on another laptop and disabled updates and it works fine there. I'm not 100% sure that the update itself killed MS Money or whether MS Money was open at the time that the update installed, and so MS Money was not shut down properly and that caused the problem.
Any help appreciated as this has been driving me crazy for the last week or so.
Just an FYI: I'm running Windows 10, version 1903. Money works fine; been using it since about 2004.
I have Money 2005 (UK version) working fine on three PCs running v 1809.
Things to check.
- Do a full power off & restart. Also run sfc / scannow to check/repair the system files.
- Confirm Internet Explorer is installed and set to default conditions.Set from Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features\Turn Windows Features On or Off.
- Uninstall Money and reinstall it using the link I gave in post 9 which is the latest UK version. Run the installer as Administrator from an admin account in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3. Also set the Money executable file to compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3. See Microsoft Money – View from the Potting Shed
