Hello fellow Money users. I am here to ask for your help. I've just purchased a new computer (HP-Compaq Elite 8300) which is running Win 10 Pro, version 10.0.18363. I have tried to install Money Plus Sunset Deluxe version 17.0.120.3817 but when I try to restore the data files from my old computer which is running Win 10, I get an error message which tells me that the backup data files cannot be accessed due to having been created using another version of Money. Makes sense as the backup files were created using MS Money 2005, version 14.0.120.1105. I have the original install CD for 2005 BUT it requires a "Passport" which I don't have. I don't ever remember creating one when I installed the program way-back-when. I have already installed the .dll patch. I'm becoming stressed out about this as I have over 15 years of data. I did notice this morning that IE was missing so I added IE to the Money files as well but it didn't affect anything. I never have used any of the online features. I have always just used Money for my personal finances and I've really grown dependent on it. So, can anybody help this old confused Money user?
Kindest Regards and Happy Thanksgiving!
That might be tough problem to crack. You could join and post a message on this Google Money Support Group which was formed recently - Microsoft Money - Google Groups

That's the version I use in the UK. I do know the file formats of the UK and US versions are incompatible. There are various versions on Money 2005 as shown here - Money 2005 Patches made available by Microsoft [Microsoft (MS) Money FAQ and Help]
I use the UK version for which the installation file is Money2005-UK-QFE2.exe
Thanks, Steve.
How can I tell which format my data is created with?
Thank you, thank you one and all for your thoughts and suggestions! IT (MS MONEY) LIVES AGAIN! This is terribly embarrassing, but I don't know exactly which path I used but it worked! I was getting very frustrated and stressed out but I'll try to give you the basics of what I did. First of all, from Steve's post above, I used the UK version for which the installation file is Money2005-UK-QFE2.exe C:\Sample_2020-11-20_160333. The resulting Money was version 14.0.120.1105 which still didn't work past the request for a Password or Passport. And this is where it gets foggy. I had read somewhere to try opening using the Sample data. I fiddled and fussed with this and it finally started and I got a screen which was using the British monetary system (pounds ??). I remembered in the Settings help a section where I could change the currency settings so I set it to the US Dollar setting. Nothing happened. Still reading in pounds. So while it was operating, I set my backup preferences and shut it down to get another cup of coffee. When I started back up, it booted right into the program, although with the Sample data BUT it now read in US dollars! I was ecstatic! Then, I went ahead with the Restore from Backup function, using my data from my old computer which I had backed up onto a portable external hard drive. IT WORKED!! So, as I said, I don't know exactly what I did, but I'm back in service.
So, again, thanks to all and especially to Steve C. for the links and information he shared!
I wish to all a Happy Thanksgiving and may you all have a covid-free future!
Kindest Regards,
Rich Tubbs
Well done! Now for heavens sake store the password somewhere safe. I would also backup all the Money installation files in case they are pulled from servers at some future date. Note there are some add-ons to the UK Money version in the links I gave you.
