Thanks. I am not even sure what version of Money is running here - only that it works for me. I believe the installation was in June 2014 using my file USMoneyDlxSunset.exe size 34,834Kb. The Help button tells me I am using Microsoft Money Plus Deluxe ver 17.0.120.3817. No mention of the word Sunset you will note! My original plan was to get a new HDD with W10 working then use the Money install file to get Money operational and the run the latest data file which I would have copied to the new drive from my older (ex-C) drive. The entire operation would be totally reversible in the event of problems by shutting down, removing the new drive and re-booting using my old C-drive.
I considered a SSD for the reasons you stated but decided on the 1TB Seagate to avoid too many new technologies on my motherboard and processor and my own old brain at once. I tried using Macrium a few years back and got somewhat befuddled by the menu options offered and lost confidence.
My existing C-drive is about 7 years old which is why I felt a new one would have a longer potential life. I never switch it off to avoid wear and tear but 7 years is a long time and it is getting a little full (70 percent)
I have already acquired the OEM disk for a new W10 system. I thought a free upgrade offer had lapsed a year or more ago - and I could not remember if my W7 was an upgrade from XP but I now think I also bought it new and had a new motherboard at the same time to handle 64-bit.
Anyhow - if any of the above affects your advice let me know. And I should like to be confident of what Money I am currently running and how to be sure I get the same after the W10 upgrade. however it is achieved. Your advice is very much appreciated. PS My brain is 73 years old. PPS I had also subliminally preferred new installation of all programs I needed despited the time involved just to ensure no old incompatibilities emerged. Does that make any sense?
