Way of getting Win Media Player to play MP4s without installing KLite?

I am wanting to play MP4 (H264s) in Windows Media Player.

Normally you have to download and install relevant codec packs, e.g. KLite codec pack basic.

Is there an alternative to KLite, or just being able to install a unique codec for H264 ?

    (related to DirectShow)

My Raspberry Pi powered surveillance cameras record in H.264(.mp4). I have no problems viewing them in Media Player or the Photo's App? And I haven't installed any third party codec packs, not that I know of anyway.

I believe there is another codec pack called cccp.
I have only seen it on Ninite.com. I have never installed it. There is a free
alternative to media player called VLC which doesn't need any codec packs installed.

There is Shark007's which are quite lite. You probably want the standard version and the 64-bit installer.

I used to use them for Windows 7 but haven't felt the need to install codecs for Windows 10.

+1 to VLC as an easier install.

+1 to the +1. VLC seems to tackle things others cannot.
