    Cortana not working

Hi all.... I am having trouble trying to get Cortana to work, I click the mike icon and the window appears but it dosent seem to hear me . It asks me to test the mike and I speak and it says its fixed but its just the same.
When I press the windows button and C the window appears and there is a circle in it but still no response.
I have windows 10 home 64 bit. Is it possible to download cortana with a view to repairing it please?.

If you have a suitable system restore point, try using that. And of course you could restore a recent disk image if you have that- hopefully you do use disk imaging routinely.

Please create a new user for test purposes. If the same thing happens with that user, you may need to do an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data and most settings.

If it doesn't, an in-place upgrade repair install will not help.

To tell you the truth I am a bit scared to do that as I have a lot of info all over the place and I don't want to lose any of it. I think I had better just do without Cortana.
Thankyou for all your advise it is very appreciated and welcome.

An in-place upgrade repair is relatively routine. It's the same procedure as upgrading to the next build. If you are afraid of it, you will never let your PC upgrade.

Or you could just wait for the next upgrade. (Cortana and search are separate in 1903, when Cortana is voice-only)

If you use disk imaging routinely (as you should) and particularly make sure your disk image files are up to date before a major change, you always have a back stop.
