I can't install a program with extension .msi

    Greetings all,

I couldn't really find a perfect forum to put this in, sorry if I missed one.
    I d/l a program today from sourceforge.net - here's the file name. FFbatch_setup_1.6.6_x64.msi
I don't see very many programs with .msi extension, but I've had them before and installed them w/o problem.
I did google search and I found a few hits but only one was close to my scenario. It said Msiexec.exe Access is Denied Error When Installing Programs
I'm not getting any access errors, I get nothing. The file just sits there. I looked at the security and I have Read & Read/Execute. If I searched further back, I saw some hits with "Problem with Windows Installer"
but I haven't had this problem until today.
I'm sure I've installed other .msi programs in the past few months.

Do you guys know if there's a specific service that s/b running for the msi install to work?
    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

I found your download, looks like a useful program, I use FFmpeg too buy I've not see that one before. I had problems installing it too, but that was solved simply by unblocking the downloaded .msi file...

    ...then double-clicking on the .msi.

If that doesn't work for you, then did you know it is also available in Portable form as FFmpeg_Batch_1.6.6_Portable_x64.exe?

I got error from website, see screen print below. Can't send my reply

I had to create a NEW message vs a reply because of the error I got when I tried to reply. Screenshot will show you. I got rid of all of your input below the Tutorial link and removed the top paragraph with your quote. Then it was happy, doing a new post. Dunno if it would have let me reply after cutting your input, but was tired of wasting time, didn't try it.
So this poses another question - anyone ever seen this? and know what causes it?
Thanks to both of you for your help, but I must ask - Why would a file be blocked? At first I read it as Unlock and that made sense to me. This isn't necessary info but I do like to learn from any problem and solution I get. And Bree, I did see that there's a portable but I typically install a program like this because I want my settings to be saved and most portables I've used only save minimal settings. I'm going to Unblock the file and try install, but will be anxiously awaiting your answer to why program would be blocked.
    Thx more

By default executable files downloaded from the internet are marked as coming 'from another computer' and therefore potentially unsafe. They are blocked automatically for your protection. If you trust the source, then you just need to unblock them before running them. From the tutorial....

The Attachment Manager is included in Windows to help protect your PC from unsafe attachments that you might receive with an e-mail message and from unsafe files that you might save from the Internet...

No, I've never seen this (a glitch on the site, perhaps?). Another glitch seems to have prevented your screenshot appearing....

...but it does explain why I got a notification of a quote in a 'deleted post'

    I can't install a program with extension .msi-image.png

Edit: Oh, now I do see a screenshot....
@hooked, in your screenshot it appear you removed a bit too much of my post, you should have closed my quote with a [/QUOTE] tag before the text of your reply.

Yes, I have occasionally seen a 'message too short...' like yours when posting (for no obvious reason). @z3r010 may be able to shed more light on this...

    Glitch, My over zealous deleting

Glad I'm not the only one that had that error about msg being too small. It's just that kind of stuff that keeps us on our toes. Well I read the tutorial after my post, and it was informative. I d/l LOTs of software from sites that I trust, and today is the 1st time I've had Windows block a file. It's good to know that now, glad I posted cuz I was just going to blow it off. But then I'd have been mighty frustrated with that situation occurring again and again. Thanks for all the info Bree.

No glitch, just a simple user error.

OP had written his / her reply inside the quote of @Bree's post (yellow highlight):

    I can't install a program with extension .msi-image.png

We have a three character minimum length for posts, but a quote is not counted. In this case, OP's post only contained the quote, for forum software the post length was 0 characters, therefore the error message.

That make sense, thanks for clearing up the mystery.

Kari - So glad you solved the mystery

Kari, Thanks a lot for your solution to the mystery. Things like that don't keep me up at night, but I usually do wonder about them - I'll be minding my business and out of the blue I'll think.. I wonder why it did that??

Hey Bree we both learned something here, and probably a few hundred more members did as well. And Bree, FYI, MSI program was Blocked - I did exactly what you said, checked the Unblock box and I was good to go. I'm still amazed that this hasn't ever been an issue for me before. But, not complaining as I know the solution now.

Thanks to all of you that replied.
