How to get application to work in Windows 10?

Okay, got it and thank you very much for the helpful information. I wasn't aware you were using Windows 10 inside a VM. That may be the reason it worked for you. When I first received my new PC it came with a clean install of Windows 10. The very first thing I did when I received my new PC was to make sure this application works, and it did not. I got the performance counters error. After that, is when I started making registry changes. Therefore, I think I will have the same results after a format and clean install. I guess, I will still give it a try though. In regards to the taskbar, I agree the application is out dated. However, the taskbar disappeared when opening the application in Windows 7.

Can anyone else get this application to run in Windows 10 without a having a VM?

I don't think so, running as a VM should make no difference to the software environment seen by the app. I should also mention, as it may be more relevant than being a VM, that this was an install of Windows 10 Pro.

However, the taskbar disappeared when opening the application in Windows 7.

I believe that in Windows 7 the taskbar was treated as another app with a window that could be closed on request. The Windows 10 taskbar seems to be quite different in how it is implemented.

Okay then, I will give it a try. Yes, I have a retail copy of Windows 10 Pro also. Not to worry, it's not the end of the world for me about the taskbar. If the application works in Windows 10, I will be very pleased.

Is there any chance that application is not working for me in Windows 10 based on the hardware inside my PC? Such as, the motherboard or CPU?

I will try and get this done tonight and let you know how I make out. In the meantime is there anyone else out there who is able to get this application to run in Windows 10?

I'm trying to get this figured out in the next few days. Reason being, if the application doesn't work in Windows 10, I will most likely purchase a new Windows 7 compatible, (offline) laptop for this application. There is currently a brand new, 6th generation, Windows 7 compatible laptop up for sale that I like and don't want to miss out. At the same time, I don't want to spend $1100 for a laptop if the application can work in Windows 10. I don't think this application would even work in a VM. Since the application communicates with the audio devices via USB.

Few would be willing to risk installing unknown software downloaded from a stranger. Fortunately for you I have a machine I routinely wipe and restore from its Macrium image.

This is a little old Acer netbook with a 1024x600 display, an Intel Atom processor and runs 32-bit Windows 10 Home 1809. Elgar installs, runs and added the DN9848E device successfully on that too. So it works on real (and very different) hardware.

On minor point, if it's turned on you'll need to turn off Controlled Folder Access while you do the install else the installer cannot put the icons on the desktop. Bar that, and the fact that 600 pixels height is too few to display the whole of the Device window, it is apparently working correctly.

(now I'm off to restore its Macrium image.)

Well, I reinstalled Windows 10 with the help of a Microsoft technician, and the application is working just like you said. The technician and I installed Windows 10 version 1803. Although, you said that you had the application working on build 1809 which is most current. I know you mentioned that you run Windows 10, 1809 inside a VM. Do you receive Windows 10 updates that way and if so, was Windows 10 fully up to date when you had the application working?

I'm trying to understand why this application wasn't working for me at first and if a Windows 10 update was the reason.

    Thanks again,

Yes, the 1809 VM was fully up to date. In a VM it's the hardware that's 'virtual', the Windows itself runs just as if it was installed on 'real' hardware, including Windows Update automatically keeping it updated.

You said in post #5 that "... Right now my registry is not a default...". Something you had changed in your Registry seems the most likely culprit, now fixed by the reinstall.

That is good to know. Therefore in theory, I should be able to install Windows 10, build 1809, be fully up to date with Windows update and the application should work.

You misunderstood, when I first received my new PC it had a fresh install of 1809 from the manufacturer. I then activated windows with my retail license. Then the very next thing I did was install the application and it did not work. After that, is when I started changing things in the registry.

I guess the only explanation for this would be that something wasn't right with the original install of Windows 10 from the manufacturer?

Now I will do a complete format and reinstall of 1809, get all of the Windows updates and then try to install the application. It should still work hopefully.

I will let you know how I make out and again, thank you very much for your help.

With each WU, I run CCleaner registry cleanup and all links to NF 1.1 are broken, so I suspect it's uninstalled or isolated by default. I'd just keep the download exe on hand for each upgrade. This may shed some light for you -

I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to tell me. I was aware that according to some websites, NF 1.1 is not compatible with Windows 10 and I assumed this is the reason why this application would not work. However, each and every time I have installed NF 1.1 on Windows 10, it has installed successfully without any error messages?

    Hello Bree,

The application continues to work in build 1809. I didn't format and reinstall Windows 10 yet, I got 1809 through Windows update.

It seems like you regularly re install Windows 10 on your PC and I have a question. Do you recommend using the most current Windows 10 .iso installer or the media creation tool installer?

I'm not sure exactly what the difference is between the two. Although, the Microsoft technician recommended the .iso over the media creation tool.

Last, when I go to reinstall windows 10, I am supposed to sign in to my Microsoft account and create a pin? I thought that I would just need to provide my Windows 10 retail product key when reinstalling Windows 10.

I guess the only explanation for why the application wasn't working, must be the way Windows 10 was originally installed by the PC manufacturer. Would you agree with this?
