10 installed/updated/drivers done, now what apps spying, telemetry etc

SO i have been able to get 10 installed, drivers updated, and windows updates done.

Now i have stayed away from 10 for many reason and one of them was all the spying and telemetry etc it want to know so what apps should i install as my first port of call, also another bug bear is it updating when it wants which is a real pain in the backside IMO.

I have got 2 apps from O&O called AppBuster & ShutUp10 which i suspect will go on very quickly but before I do anything i wanted to ask wha apps others would suggest on a clean install of 10, not just spyware and telemetry based but anything else others would suggest.

Thanks for the suggestion NavyLCDR i already use True Image and did so suring my whole install routine, so ttok an image just as basic windows, then when windows activated, then went drives had gone on and fully updated as well, so those images will be taken away and moved to another seperate hard drive.

I was looking for suggestions to try to help me get it closer to a classic looking windows 7 machine (I know about startisback) and anything else i should use to control MS spying and it painfull habit of updating when it wants to etc, so any other suggestions are more than welcome pleaseeeeee.

Many members here use Classic shell -> https://sourceforge.net/projects/classicshell/ I myself had purchased "Start it is Back" -> https://www.startisback.com/ These are known to work with W10 with no problems.

I do run ESET Smart Security as well as Malwarebytes and to be honest i'd like to do away with all of MS "security" stuff but i have to read more into this.
storageman I see classic shell is no longer being worked on so little worried about the future, StartIsBack seems to be much the same as classic shell, am i right or have i missed something?

The author of Classic Shell had to give it up for personal reasons, but I can assure you that it still works very well, as does the open source project people started using Classic Shell code. The new one is called Open Shell. Looks and feels identical to Classic Shell. Both work well. A long thread, and old thread, on the subject, but you'll find all you need to know in it.

No worry.... still there and working. On Insider, too.

Look here: Classic Shell no longer in development, and now open source - Windows 10 Forums

Autoruns is a very handy program to control what third party stuff runs on your PC https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sys...loads/autoruns

I use CCleaner & Wise Disk Cleaner to prune temporary files.

I do not recommend the use of any Acronis product (True Image) due to poor software engineering. Macrium Reflect is excellent as suggested above.

I did put classic on a test laptop and had no issues with it and it looked cool, i will have a look at Open Shell and see what that is like

I will have a look at this thread but at 75 odd pages long i will not be reading the whole thing if i'm honest.

Autorun looks intresting, i use CCleaner normally and as a rule never have any issues with True Image, i image once a day via boot disc ONLY and in 5 years only ever had an issue with one image, however i am upgrading one of my laptops and gone from a 250GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD to a Crucial 1TB P1 drive and had untold issues using Crucial's True Image software, even the super dooper fix they sent me failed to clone the drive and in the end i had to use Macrium Reflect to get it to clone correctly, so it is something i will be looking at as it went very smmothly using Macrium Reflect.

Don't get too bent out of shape by all the FUD which circulates about the telemetry. If you're on a slow or metered connection, then it's a good idea to minimize bandwidth usage, but otherwise I'm not aware of any credible evidence that MS's telemetry is harmful.

Given the microscopic scrutiny Microsoft is always under by many competent investigators, if there was anything harmful going on, I think we'd hear of it pretty quickly.

    anything else others would suggest.
All good suggestions above. Of course, the answer depends on what you use your machine for. I suggest you save yourself some time and visit Ninite. I've ticked a few boxes for apps I'm happy to recommend. Unticked doesn't mean I think they're badómost I know there are goodóbut rather that it'll depend on your requirements as to which is better for you.
