Why Does my Default App Revert Back to MS Default?

I changed my .pdf default to PDFComplete, and it reverts back to IE often. My guess is it happens every time MS does an update to my Win10 Pro (v 1803 Build 17134.706). Any thoughts on how to prevent this in the future?

Running on HP Compaq Pro 6300 SFF

Hi, how did you/do you change the default association?

You may be aware that pdf association problems are reported relatively commonly, most often with respect to Adobe products.

I've never seen this happen (and don't use Adobe products).

    PDFComplete
I guess you mean this ..

    - this is surprising- do you perhaps mean Edge?

I was not aware. This is not an Adobe product; comes from PDF Complete, Inc.

The Default in Windows 10 for .PDF is Edge. I use Adobe Acrobat Reader DC as a .PDF Reader and that default is not changed by any version update of Windows 10 I can remember.

The choices on Mine are Edge, Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, Chrome.

The Settings > Apps > Default apps > Choose default applications by file type, has been flaky in some versions of Windows 10 but on 1809 17763.437 is probably the best it has been.

How is it that you're on 1809 17763.437, and I'm only on 1803 17134.706 , and, when I check for updates, it says I'm up to date?

Many ask that- MS's roll-out of 1809 is very slow, and the stats show a relatively small %ge are on 1809. Builds are also not offered where MS's database indicates there may be a risk.

Do a search- you will find out MS messed up 1809 and withdrew it for over a month last year.

Hardly worth bothering as the next build will be out soon; my policy is not to update until after the first major update is out, and opinions and issues clear.

Further, you have Pro; it is possible to defer feature updates for up to 365 days, giving you control. If so, you will not have been offered 1809.

    You might try:
Stop Edge from hijacking your PDF/HTML file associations

Note: I've never experienced this problem, although it's widely reported. But I don't use either your product or Adobe's, and didn't use build 1803.

More: for build 1803, one particular update caused problems: feel free to research further.
