I really feel for you folks, to loose everything must be devastating. I don't use One Drive never have. Why would anyone trust MS One Drive/Cloud with important personal files is just beyond me. Would you trust a stranger to manage your PC and important data? Certainly not! Why would users trust MS bit jockey's. Back up, back up, backup.

There's been a lot of hype of late about Avast's acquisition of CCleaner and the apps monitoring and calling home. Yet some users (many) put their trust in cloud services. A Service that no one knows where their account resides, or who has access to your account and personal files. It just baffles me. Come on folks do as @vgkfan83 suggests, it costs little, is secure, administered by the user and if the drive is encrypted it's as secure as the Bank of England or Fort Knox.

OneDrive is useful if you want to access files from several PCs and share large files with friends. I don't rely on OneDrive for storing important files. Be careful what files you synch on your PC and how you delete them. Any files deleted accidentally should still reside online on OneDrive in the Recycle Bin from where you can recover them.

Get you a NAS (WD My Cloud) and you can do the same thing. Just Map Network the Drive. . With a NAS, you can also view files from anywhere you have internet access.

Agreed, the WDC MyCloud attached to a Router can be set up as one's personal cloud storage and accessed remotely. I have 2 such drives but haven't had a need yet to set up as remote.

Q: Have you resolved the One Drive issue?
A: Yes, I got Google Drive.
One Drive was giving me problems, notably the failures when saving large files to the cloud.
Moving to Google Drive fixed that. Simple.

That's a solution - however I would need to leave it running and the router on whilst away on a long holiday which I'm not keen to do.

I use OneDrive quit a bit. Mostly for storing build pictures of my Raspberry Pi projects. It makes it easy to post links to them from OneDrive on forums. I also store some python files there too so I can access them from multiple devices. Those files are also stored locally in a separate folder.
I do quit frequent clean installs on several of my PC's. I have yet to lose any files stored on OneDrive as a result. Its always synced the other way, from OneDrive to my PC. Just a FYI post.
