Restored, Windows apps wouldn't update, now I can't reinstall Store.

As the title suggests. I was following threads on here and microsofthelp for error code 0x80073CF9 , using elevated powershell and 10AppsManager. I can't seem to reinstall the Microsoft Store at all now. Following this thread, I'll get the same error code that prevented me from installing and updating apps.

    Hi, assuming you've tried this
Re-register Microsoft Store app in Windows 10 | Tutorials

and with the history of your PC virtually unknown, I'd suggest your easiest course would be an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs, data and most settings.

For this you will need an iso of the same base language, build and 'bitness' - these are freely downloadable.
If you use an iso of a later build, you will upgrade to that build.Windows 10 Help Forums assumes your disk and file system are sound.

With the May 2019 around the corner, does this mean I could just wait until then? If I update normally, could that resolve the issue, or would I require the .iso?

Hi, the choice is yours. Here's my view on handling a new build:

Never - and expecially not after the disaster of the last two- accept the first release of a new build. Only do that after the first major update has been released.

Now consider the date of release. 1903 should be out in May. But it will be delivered progressively via WU over the next months. Given how very cautious MS has been with 1809, we might see the same pattern with 1903.

Thus if you waited for that to be offered by WU, you might be waiting 3-5 months..

Of course, you could just grab an iso, and use that..

Now if you are in the habit of using disk imaging, as is constantly urged time and again here, then you can protect yourself against disaster (which you should anyway) by making sure you have a current disk image before upgrading.

There is the further risk that there is damage to your system. You might find a feature upgrade via WU fails. Or you might be fine.

I know this first hand, I upgraded to 1809 right away and factory reset immediately. I believe I lost some music, but nothing too insane.

Regardless, I did the in-place repair, and from there I was able to run the command through an elevated PowerShell to reinstall the Microsoft Store. Thanks!
