Software to backup Programs and its data from Dead Win10 install

    Hello,

I would like to know if there is a software that creates a backup of programs and its data/registries associated with those programs, from a inaccessable win10 install, I have access to the parition itself and not the system(BSOD that can't be resolved even after involving the profiessionals here on the forum, just a unique problem that can not be solved).

    Thanks in advance

Hi, if you can create a disk image of the partition, you can use a program from Laplink or Easeus that runs on a new Win 10 install, and with the disk image as its source, effectively 'reinstalls' the programs you select, sometimes even including the license.

    One-off transfer license.

This I found when I used it some years ago to be about 95% effective for some 100s of programs. A few had to be installed manually.

Not recommended for security programs or large office suites for example.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion, I actually have images of the partition created using Macrium/Backupper
I will restore it to another partition, then back it up again to an image using Easeus and do what you said.

but any idea where I can find how to do the "reinstall" part using the image?

Sorry, that's not what those programs do. I'll attempt to be clearer.

    1. If you already have an image- great. That's your source.
    2. This is NOT about restoring the image- unless, of course, your image was created of your system BEFORE you had the BSOD problem.

If so- then all you have to do is restore the partition- problem solved.

    Please clarify and advise.

    3. I will assume you don't have an image created before the BSOD happened. If so, your image is the SOURCE to be processed by either the Easeus or Laplink program - those are NOT disk imaging programs, but ones to transfer programs (and data) from one build to another.

True, all the images were created after the BSOD, but I meant that i have images created by different programs so it won't work with Easeus, so i will have to create an image using Easeus first then use that image.

AFAIK, with a Macrium image (not clone).. if you reinstall Windows and drag 'n drop the partition it preserves the underlyring IRQ (which I assume got corrupted causing the BSOD in the current installation).. just my 10 cents ( inflation.. )

Sorry, you misunderstand or I'm not being clear enough.

If you have a Macrium disk image as source, that should work with either the Easeus PCTrans program or the Laplink PCMover program. That's what I used. Naturally, read the descriptions, check with their support beforehand as my experience was some years ago.

(No OS files are transferred- so no BSOD, if Win 10 was successfully clean installed first).

You should not need to create another image file.

Laplink have confirmed with me over chat that my situation can't use any of the software they provide, im currently exploring other options and will check if PCTrans would work in my scenario

    Thanks alot

PCmover Image & Drive Assistant solves this problem. It is designed to work with all imaging software to allow any image to be restored to a PC with a different operating system without overwriting anything, including the new operating system. This process is called Operating System Independent Restore.

The easy-to-use wizard provides full selectivity and user control over exactly what is restored – you can choose everything or only selected programs, folders or file types. And with an easy ‘Undo’ feature and full money-back guarantee, PCmover Image & Drive Assistant is the smart choice for all your image restoration needs.

    Hi there

    @badboyilprimo

Have you tried from a stand alone Macrium bootable restore USB the option Fix Boot problems -- depending on what the failure was or the severity of it macrium is quite good at fixing boot problems -- the Free version is generally sufficient. This might restore your Windows to being bootable again !!!

Don't do the restore -- simply after booting up the stand alone Macrium program choose fix Windows boot problems -- Macrium will scan HDD's for Windows installations -- it will show a list - choose the one you want to repair. This works unless the Windows system is so hideously broken that nothing will fix it again. You might have to do the fix twice (rarely) though. I.e if after first attempt windows still doesn't boot do the same thing again.

If it's DATA (user data) you need to recover any Linux live distro will be able to read the Windows partition - use the file manager to copy what you want . This method though is only good for recovering DATA including any outlook.pst type files in email but won't recover program executables (unless stand alone portable.exe files).

    Cheers
