    @milofields, did you make sure the excel file type matched the registry key you modified? When I was first trying it, I was attempting to open an .xls file but had only modified the Excel.Sheet.12 key so it appeared not to work but after I modified Excel.Sheet.8, it worked and that's how I found out that all of them had to be changed.

    .xlsx -> Excel.Sheet.12
    .csv -> Excel.CSV
    ? -> Excel.Macrosheet
    .ods -> Excel.OpenDocumentSpreadsheet.12 (haven't tried this one yet)
    .xls -> Excel.Sheet.8
    .xlsb -> Excel.SheetBinaryMacroEnabled.12 (haven't tried this one yet)
    .xlsm -> Excel.SheetMacroEnabled.12
    .xltx -> Excel.Template
    .xlt -> Excel.Template.8
    .xltm -> Excel.TemplateMacroEnabled

    Also just for reference, the new Excel.Sheet.12\shell\Open\command (Default) key value now looks exactly like this:
    "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\Root\Office15\EXCEL.EXE" "%1"
    (Quote marks and all)

    The ddeexec key also has to be renamed or deleted.

    Yes, I did check those things, but it didn't fix it.

    I did find the fix though. It's all related to Windows 10 and the "Hey Cortana" feature. Disabled it and problem is resolved and fixed.

    I appreciate all your efforts gijimbo

    You were spot on with what I tried before and it has fixed it for other people nearly 99.5% of the time.

    Hi,

    I just registered to share the fact that I had to do one additional thing to make it all work.
    I'm on Windows 10 and Office 2016 and I needed to also change the /dde in the Command entry.
    See picture.

    Thanks Jimbo, this solves my problem. My Office could not print anything until I ran them as admin, but Excel just did not work that way. It shown an error opening the file and the only way to open is to open Excel first and locate to the file using "Open", which is really really inconvenience compared to Click-to-open.

    Thanks again !

    Still need advise after solving this problem

    Hi again,

    After applying those fixes, now I am able to open and print excel files. However, I see they are opened in separated processes and they don't see each other. I want to use Move and Copy to another opening file but it is now impossible.

    Any advise ?

    Thanks in advance.

    Solution offered here works 100% for me, incl. move/copy work sheets

    I signed up deliberately and only to extend my gratitude for the solution here. It was driving me crazy since yesterday on my work pc. And of course ... (of COURSE) my company IT had zippo idea what the issue was. I finally came here via Daddy Google.

    Thanks again - good work!
