    Windows Power Media Problem

Is the Windows PowerMedia Player supposed to do anything? The one in my computer never plays any DVDs and if I try to close it, it reboots my computer. It also won't let me use any other media player like VLC.

If you mean the app Power.Media.Player then that is not designed to play DVDs.

Your description of problems with VLC might be a simple setup issue [but for the clearcut Power.Media.Player fault].
    - No other app should be able to stop you using VLC [which can play DVDs].
    - I'd suggest uninstalling Power.Media.Player since it is not working anyway then re-trying VLC afterwards. If, as might well be the case, VLC does everything you need then there'd be no need to do any faultfinding at all.
    - Otherwise, if you post the symptoms here, somebody might recognise them and be able to help you solve them.

    Best of luck,

I got VLC to come up, but then the PowerMedia came up 3 more times and prevented anything from playing. When I tried to open the DVD entry to play it, It gave me a choice of options. I clicked on play with VLC, but the PowerMedia came up anyway. BTW, the drive is an external, the one in the computer is broken. I don't know if that matters.

The fact that the DVD player is external ought not to be a problem. It really does sound like that Power.Media.Player is faulty and should be uninstalled.

By the way, I was still correcting some text in my first post [to avoid ambiguity] when you posted.

In case it is helpful with VLC, when I run DVDs from a [different] third-party utility I go to the DVD's Video_ts subfolder, put them in name order then double-click on the first .ifo file in the list. VLC might or might not need the same approach, I do not remember.
[sorry to be so vague but I haven't got any examples readily to hand].

I have played DVDs on the computer before. There always has been some issues with getting them to play, but this is the first time I've had this much trouble. I'll try another DVD later and see what happens. I'll try opening VLC before I put anything in and see if that helps.

    So you have uninstalled Power.Media.Player?
It really does sound like it was the cause of the problem.
If the problem persists after uninstalling Power.Media.Player then I would suggest uninstalling then reinstalling VLC [purely out of a slight suspicion that that other thing might have corrupted it].

    Best of luck,
