Screen blanks when I try to capture anything

I use Faststone capture and have never had any problems capturing a screen (full or selected area) until now.

Since the recent Windows 10 update, whenever I try to capture a screen the screen goes blank.

Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it?

    Thanks

    Hi pewe

I would recommend you use a tool like Macrium Reflect to take system images of your machine. Whatever tool you use please ensure you create and test the tool’s boot media. Having an Image from a working machine, pre window update, to restore from saves you time and grief. Macrium is free, reliable and used by members. If your data is within the same partition as your OS you will have to develop a backup plan for it as the Image restore restores your entire C: drive to the point in time when the Image was taken.

Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

Two things I would do after I created an Image

Ensure your Video drivers are up to date.

Uninstall and re-install your Fastone Capture

@Caledon Ken. the 'image' @pewe wants to capture is a screenshot image, not a system image.

I've not used Faststone capture, finding the Snipping Tool, 1089's Snip & Sketch, or Alt+PrntScn sufficient for my needs.

In general, screen capture is dependent on the video driver. For example, on one old machine of mine for which there is no W10 video driver avaiable the Microsoft Basic video driver does not support Alt+PrtScn captures. Have you recently had a video driver update? If so, does rolling back to the previous driver help?

    I recognize that @Bree.

The system image comment was so he could fallback to a working time effortlessly.

Think we were both going same direction in suggesting Video driver. I also mentioned Fastone uninstall in case the update undid something.

I see. Yes, that's a highly recommended precaution all should take.

I had this problem a few years ago when I had banking security software (Trusteer Rapport IIRC) installed. It would prevent screenshots if anything like Amazon, Ebay, my online bank etc was open.
