    Photo Viewer

    Hello again,

    I guess in my zealousness to remove the default apps, I must have also deleted the old photo viewer. I searched and everything I find says to download it from the store, my problem is that I also removed the store.

    Anyone know of a place to download the old photo viewer (beside the store?)? I would really like to have it back without re imaging my machine to add the store.

    Not clear which viewer you mean but there are plenty of free one like XnView · Image Viewer, Photo Resizer & Graphic Converter

    Do you mean the Photos app or the old Windows Photo Viewer. If the later, then...

    If you'd prefer to try an alternative, many recommend IrfanView.

    Thanks forthe help,

    As I stated, I removed the store which the first link says to use so I tried to do as the second link suggest and used;

    Code:
    PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Command "& {$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage *Photos*).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest}"
    And I got this error which probably means I don't have the store on my computer...

    Code:
    PS C:\Windows\system32> PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Command "& {$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage *Photos*).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest}"

    I may have to check into another viewer but I liked the native app because it was simple and basic, it just showed the picture...

    You can't get more basic than the old Windows Photo Viewer that's been around since XP/W7 and is still in W10 (but well hidden). I actually prefer it to the Photos app because it is much faster to open. You could enable it while you look for something better.

    It's an old fashioned Win32 executable, so you don't need the Store to enable it.

    Thanks again, my problem is I don't have the files on my machine and I don't have the store on my machine to get the files.

    I was hoping someone knew of a place that had an installer or could figure out which files on their machine makes it work and upload them in a zip file?

    You sure you don't have the Windows Photo Viewer files? They should be in C:\Program Files\Windows Photo Viewer

    If you really don't have them and you have the ISO for W10 you can use 7-Zip to extract the files from install.esd (or install.wim). Just open it in 7-Zip File Manager.

    Removing Store doesn't remove the old Windows Photo Viewer. Try the reg file - Option One:

    Restore Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 10 | Tutorials

    Other than that open Registry Editor:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Photo Viewer\Capabilities\FileAssociations

    Create these string values:

    ".bmp"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Tiff"
    ".dib"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Tiff"
    ".gif"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Tiff"
    ".jfif"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Tiff"
    ".jpe"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Tiff"
    ".jpeg"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Tiff"
    ".jpg"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Tiff"
    ".jxr"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Tiff"
    ".png"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Tiff"
    Photo Viewer-wpv.jpg

    Then set associations via settings app.

    Or just use this instead:

    Download JPEGView 1.0.37
