Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime error, abnormal program termination

    Hello girls and guys,

hope to find some help here with this problem:

I have a synthesizer attached to my computer. To edit the sounds on it, it comes with an editor which ran fine until some days or weeks ago, can't tell, because I didn't use it for some time.

Now the program is quite old and consists only of a single EXE-file, so no installation is needed. The program runs smoothly on my very new notebook with windows 10 x64, but not on the machine where it should, also windows 10 x64. Both running the new update 1809.

When starting the program, I get this error message:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime error, abnormal program termination-error_clavia.jpg

Now C++ is an old language and I suppose it is the MFC-library that rises the error or something like that.

Does anyone have an idea what I could do to make the program run again? This is the Program, btw., the single EXE from Clavia NORD, a swedish snythesizer brand:

Download page Clavia Nord, Nord Modular Editor v3.03.zip

Thanks a lot for any suggestions!

    Martin

Check which runtimes (MFC) you have on the 'good' PC and download that on the 'bad' one.

Hello Superfly, thanks for your reply. Actually I uninstalled all vc_redists on the "bad" computer, then reinstalled them. vc_redist_2008 to vc_redist_20XX. Didn't work.

Now when starting the program with admin priviledges, it starts up, but as soon as I try to open the integrated "file explorer", it chrashes with the same error. Maybe it is a problem with the rights. why does the program startup when being elevated?

I tried to find out the dlls loaded by the process of the editor, using the freeware "listdlls", but then I was irritated by the fact that on the "bad" computer dlls like wow64.dll are being loaded, while on the good one tey are not. Now this seems to be cpu-dependend, as far as I understood. Now it seemed somehow dangerous to me to copy system dlls from one computer to another when dlls seem to rely on specific cpus, no?

    Thanks! Martin

Download and install the latest All-In-One Visual C++ runtimes.

    Thank you TairikuOkami!

Tried that too twice already, I tried the "bundles" too. So I am quite sure I got the recent stuff. However I am coming maybe somewhat closer. Running the Synth editor sandboxed in "Sandboxie" it runs completely as expected!

Do you have any idea, what difference it might make to the program running it sandboxed? Somehow I have the feeling, the program crashes due to right problems accessing the file system. But this is only a very vague guess.

    Thanks a lot!

Hello again. I am still struggling with my windows 10. Now it seems that my new tablet pc also rejects to run the program, same fault.

This makes me think that some windows 10 update injects some incompatibilities to elder mfc based programs in general.

Did anyone encounter problems like i do when using some elder software?

    Thanks.
