ocr one note windows 10
I did this once and forgot how to get a document to be used with OCR via one note and Word.
Every YouTube does it differently but none work for me.
Thank you

I now can perform OCR with text I copy from an article or a document.
However, when I try to do so with a scan it does not work.
I basically hi-lite copy and paste to one note then hi-lite and copy paste to Word where it is editable.
An article is fine but scanning, which I need. is not working.
Any help appreciated.
If it's a photo you need ocr software or there are free ones on the web which will do it for you
>>I used to have Nuance years ago but this all in one did not come with any OCR.
The OneNote app does a good job but I cannot seem to be able to use it to OCR a scanned doc and that is what I was asking about.
I saw the ones on the web and tried two of the free ones;I do not wish to pay for it however.thank you
OneNote the proper Desktop Application with MS Office includes OCR.
I'm using OneNote 2010. Put scanned image in to a OneNote Page > Right Click Image on page > Copy text from Picture.
That will put text on the clipboard, so, as usual paste in to whatever Application you use for text documents.
This is for the OneNote Office desktop application, not to be confused with the OneNote App included with Windows 10.
Scanners usually come with drivers and a simple OCR application of some sort within their software bundle.
Unfortunately I have MS office Home and Student 2019 which only has Word, Excel and two other features. It is not the full office suite.
BTW, is the clipboard in Word?
OneNote was never updated to 2019. But if you have Office 2019, you can download and install OneNote 2016 which has OCR capability. Unfortunately, it will not be updated as Microsoft are planning to focus on OneNote For Windows 10. But the crazy thing is that OCR functionality is not included in OneNote For Windows 10.
Native Windows 10 OneNote app reads text from images (OCR function) without issues. The reason this goes often unnoticed is that It takes some time before teimage becomes readable.
When image is pasted in OneNote app, the OCR option is missing from context menu:
Waiting a bit, the option will be available:
Notice that it can take some time. For the second screenshot above, I had to wait over half an hour before option Copy Text from Picture became available. Usually it takes at least a few minutes before OneNote has processed the image and made text readable.
When text is then read from image, it can be pasted anywhere:

Thanks for that info, Kari.
But I am still waiting. It has been over an hour and a half.
I am using OneNote For Windows 10 v16001.12827.20182.0.
