    Snip Tool

A long time favourite of mine is the MS Snipping Tool included with Windows. Unfortunately this has recently come up with a "Snipping Tool is moving..." which has me concerned.
On some of my PC's the new tool has installed, but on others it has not. And when I click on the button Try Snip & Sketch it comes up with a message "you will need a new app to open this - ms screen sketch" but with the install button greyed out.
What I don't understand is why the PC has not installed it like the others have.

Click on Start, type snip, click on Snipping tool. It still works fine.

Snip & Sketch should be installed when you get the upgrade to 1809. It is then kept updated by the MS Store as it is a Store app. If you have 1809 without Snip & Sketch, try opening the Store and install it from there.

If you want to preserve the Snipping Tool against the day it may get removed, then you can do so. You need to find and copy two files to a new folder (this can be anywhere you like, I have made a 'Program Files\Old Windows apps' folder for this purpose). You need (for an en-us install of W10):

    C:\Windows\System32\SnippingTool.exe
    C:\Windows\System32\en-US\SnippingTool.exe.mui

Place the .exe in your new folder and create a sub-folder named en-US and put the .mui in that. Then create a shortcut to your copy of the .exe so you can run it. For Windows installs in other languages use the appropriate language folder in the above instructions. For my UK install I need to use en-GB instead of en-US.

Other deprecated apps that potentially may disappear can also be saved this way, MS Paint is another example.

    Thanks, Bree.
I knew about the exe file.
I did not know about the mui file.

The .mui is the 'Multilingual User Interface' file, a way to separate the language-specific elements so that one .exe can run in any language. You need the one for your system's language, always to be found in a language specific sub-folder of the folder containing the .exe. There's no restriction on where you put the folder containing the .exe as long as that folder also contains the mui sub-folder.

Store is disabled on all of my PC's.

However, that doesn't really explain why it is not working on only one PC. It does seem like it has not installed it, but HAS updated the original application with a link to the new application. That's odd. I mean two of the PC's are almost identical and it has installed it on one but not the other.
