Just re-installed Windows 10 yesterday and ofcourse installed CCleaner v5.53 which is latest version. On screen I have unchecked those options: Avast and Opera and nothing is installed.

I recently updated Ccleaner and around 5 minutes later Avast showed up in Control Panel whilst I was removing a program I no longer use.
Bottom line is there is another program that I no longer use and have removed it......its name is:

    Ccleaner

Also removed Avast again, as I dislike their overly 'aggressive' marketing techniques.

My post #22 "Wow I use CCleaner Free and the only time I had to ensure Avira wouldn't install was once when they took over.
--- I guess I have fooled someone but that's ok with me: and that's on all of my 3 Win10 computers as well as the one I service at our Senior Center."

My 3 Win10 computers are now on 1809 from a couple of weeks ago.
--- Today I upgraded to CCleaner 5.55.7108: lo & behold, I had to uncheck Avast Free Anti-Virus.
--- It will be interesting to see what happens when it's time for the next update.
--- It's not a problem just to uncheck that choice.
--- I've tried other CCleaner about a year ago or so but I returned to just doing this as-it-is for now.

I always use the custom install since Avast Bought them out. Then you do not get an option to install Avast but I did to install Chrome. But I am careful and look at what I install.

Hey - turn off auto updates and when a new version is released wait for the Slim Build to become available then download the installer and install on top of the previous version. Or backup settings file then clean install Ccleaner (Slim Build)

Why do you guys even install it? I just use the portable version and deny it internet permissions through the Advanced Windows Firewall! No bloatware, no tracking!

    Hi there
some of these programs IMO are no better than Snake Oil --they may have had value in W7/W8 days but W10 is a totally different beast in C21.

The best way is before any major install of any software etc is to take regular image backups of your system -- then if something doesn't work or doesn't uninstall properly simply restore a previous image. These days with even modest hardware and ssd's an average system restore can take less than 15 mins.

Personally that's also why I don't bother with any AV program other than Windows Defender - especially with Windows versions changing so frequently and the security is streets ahead of W8 days. Take a bit of care using Internet and email and you won't get Viruses --If by chance you do get one simply restore from clean backup -- much much faster and more reliable than trying to clean infected computer manually.

    Cheers

Instead of telling Ccleaner not to install Avast ... why not just tell yourself not to install Ccleaner? Simple.

When we install CCleaner with no Internet, there is no offer(s) to deal with. Installation must be made offline, same for Revo, Mini Tool, so on...See for latest version there at the bottom: Release Notes
