    In Search Of OneNote Replacement

I use OneNote Version 16001.11231.20118.0 from MS Office 365. Every time I send it data copied from a webpage or my notes, OneNote in the MS Cloud sucks up the added data, even though I have OneNote disconnected from it.

Bad idea, since I have a huge library of text-indexed .ONE clippings which I want to store LOCALLY and NOT in Microsoft's expensive Cloud.

Can anyone direct me to a OneNote equivalent which leaves all data on my desktop PC?

    Thanks.

    Hi

Why not disconnect the specific notebook from syncing

    • Open the notebook that you want to disable automatic sync on.
    • On the File menu, select View Sync Status, and then select sync manually

Thanks For Suggestions, But They Don't Work

I turned OFF Sync notebooks automatically and Sync all files and images in Settings > Options in OneNote-Desktop. Unfortunately, both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge secretly turn syncing back ON before saving a clip, and OneNote-Cloud gets the new saves, while OneNote-Desktop does not get them until I turn Syncing back ON. I haven't been able to get IE11 to realize the OneNote Service has been started, but I would expect the same "secret sync" behavior (I am working to get IE11 fixed).

I've combed the Internet for OneNote-like apps, and the closest I've found so far is CintaNotes, but it isn't all the way to what OneNote used to be before the syncing market got big (I don't use syncing with notes and web clips).

I'm certainly open to more suggestions.

Chrome and edge do not reenable sync at any way. Use a local sign in on your computer, not the microsoft live and keep the files locally, not on your onedrive. Also disconnect your onedrive on that machine that you want the files to stay locally. The other item is that you do not want to use the built in Onenote app (Can be confusing when you may have One Note installed from 365.

Can you please give me some guidance on avoiding the built-in OneNote app? I have OneNote pinned to my toolbar, but at this point I don't know which one it is.

One looks like a Windows 10 App and the other will look like the regular Office 365 application when it opens. You just need to make sure to not be always signed into your Microsoft Live account and do not place anything into the Onedrive Cloud Drive, if you do not want it to be remote.
