I'll check out Slack. I've seen it described as a messaging application, but I've also seen it compared to DropBox. I'm puzzled.

I use Slack at work (free version for non profit organizations). It's mostly for staff chat but you can also share files.

Forgot to mention that if using Slack you'd need to upgrade account via non profit scheme:

We're a small enough group that I assumed we'd be able to stay on the free plan. Am I misunderstanding the Slack blurb?
And speaking of misunderstanding, I see the following statement regarding file sharing under the free plan:"All the public files your team shares are kept in one place — so new people coming into the team can get all the context they need, and nothing is tucked away in a forgotten folder."Does that mean there's no ability to create (unforgotten) folders?
It's tricky to explain as i cannot post screenshots but admins can see all files and delete them if needed.

Basically you create a channel for users but you can create multiple channels. Say one for head office staff, one for regional staff, one for important announcements or whatever you like. Admins can manage each channel content including deleting files.

Maybe watch their video to get an idea.
