File rename tool that will create new folders and move files

I used to use Breeze Systems Downloader Pro to import my photos. I want to rename photo files based on date and time, and add a sequence number. Also, I want each day's photos to be in a separate folder, based on date. Downloader Pro can do all that, and will move files into the right date-based folder.

But it doesn't handle TXT or DOC files that I use a lot to create notes of photos. So I've been looking, but cannot file a general purpose file renaming program that will do everything that Downloader Pro does, but for all files, not just various RAW formats and JPGs.

I know there are like a gajillion file rename utilities out there. It doesn't have to be free. I'm willing to pay say $10-20 for the right utility, because it would be a huge time-saver for me.

    Hi,

If you don't find out what exactly you want, keep in mind that picture files have tags so your notes/comments can be included in your files. No need of TXTs or DOCs, if it's only about pure text.

Picture viewers/editors (like free FastStone Image Viewer) can easily do that (tagging).

You may also open file properties (in File Explorer), go to Details tab and add your notes under "Comments" field.

I use TXT or DOC files for additional information about the subject, beyond the usual metadata. I have a GPS unit plugged into my DSLR so I automatically capture location. But other subject details can't be captured automatically.

When I process my images in Lightroom, I will add captions, descriptions, keywords, etc. I like to organize my picture folders by date, and also rename files by their date and time. That way, when I do IMPORT into Lightroom, everything is set up the way I want it.

Lightroom has these great facilities for organizing photos by subject, people in the photo, or any criteria you want. There are collections and smart collections. The latter are populated with images that match search criteria.

So to bring this home, I'm looking for a tool to pre-process my photo files before they get imported into Lightroom.
