Residual registry entries that even Revo Uninstaller Pro missed

In my temp folder, I was getting folders for logs of two apps that I had installed and then uninstalled with Revo. And I could not delete those folders, because the log files were "in use."

So I did some searching in the registry and came across this entry, which apparently lists all the log folders that will be active when Windows boots up. Once I cleaned out the offending entries, and then rebooted, I was able to delete those log file folders.

    \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager\PendingFileRenameOperations

PS: I am submitting feedback to Revo.

I also use REVO, and I took a look at that reg entry, and it was empty. It would be interesting to find out what they respond with.

All uninstallers are going to miss stuff. The good thing about Windows 10 is that it does housecleaning of the registry, when it sees stuff that is no longer needed.

Here is their second response. Their first response was to ask for more information. I got both responses within 24 hours, and they were not the bogus answers like some other support responses. This one was right to the point.

The problem that you are experiencing is could be caused by the built-in uninstaller of the program that you are trying to remove,as it may have been unable to completely stop all the active instances of the program, or it is not programmed to do that.
Revo Uninstaller Pro works in two steps- running the built-in uninstaller and then scanning for leftovs.
However made sure that the program is completely stopped before uninstalling a certain complex software, which does have background processes or active services(set to start on system boot).
Check the Task Manager for active processes and stop them.
You can also check the Autorun Manager in Revo Uninstaller Pro to stop and remove all processes that are starting with your windowsHere you can read more about the Autorun Manager:

Skip the reg cleaners altogether. They serve no useful purpose, and they sometimes do harm.

Your teeth need to be cleaned. Your registry does not.

Ah HA - so was there a service or task running that the provided uninstaller didn't stop and/or remove it ?

If it is the case, Revo needs to determine that and at least inform the user of this problem. JMHO

Can you tell me how Windows knows a Reg entry is no longer used ? The reason I ask, why does it continually expand in size ?

This can explain how it works. Deeper into the Windows Registry | Gizmo's Freeware registry hive does not expand in size, unless you are making a lot of software or hardware changes. SFC will go through and fix the registry. The Advanced Repair from Settings, will also fix damaged or orphaned entries. See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...advanced-users for a list of the registry keys and what is in them. https://www.howtogeek.com/school/usi...a-pro/lesson5/ Export the registry and go through it, instead of actually doing it from regedit.

This may be what you are implying on as to the size thinking. "The System hive has a maximum size of half physical memory because it is loaded during startup before the paging file is available." Deeper into the Windows Registry | Gizmo's Freeware

I agree that I don't use some random registry cleaner. However, I don't regard Revo Uninstaller as that sort of tool. I just keeps the unused stuff out of my system.
