    Help me troubleshoot "Transcribe!"

So I use a program called Transcribe! to transcribe music. It's made by Seventh String Software and I had been using the Mac version for the last 10 years or so.

Just to give a quick bit of background info - Transcribe! is a a program that slows down audio without changing the pitch of the music. I load an audio file into it from any location on my HD and it will play it perfectly - the only problem is with saving it!

When I installed it on Windows 10 I have in that I get the following message when I try to open a file:

I emailed the developer and we went round in circles. I got the impression that he thought I didn't understand how to open and save files, which is absolutely not the case as I have been using this program almost daily for years now.

In an email he said to me:

I'm baffled. I would suspect some weird issue with users and permissions
except that wouldn't explain how the same program can not find the file
one moment, then find it the next.
I have downloaded the older version of Transcribe and am using it in Windows 8 compatibility mode and still get the same error message.

So, if anyone can help it would be appreciated!

Are there any more error reports or logs I can check to see what's going on when this issue occurs?

I tried running Transcribe as admin and yet the same error happens.

When access to a file is denied by Defender's Controlled Folder Access (aka Ransomware protection) it is often reported by the app concerned that '...the file could not be found'. Your Music folder is one of the folder being protected.

I think you just need to add Transcribe! to the list of apps allowed through controlled folder access.

I got excited when I read your post because I thought you cracked it! Unfortunately I don't have Controlled Folder Access turned on

There are lots of (free) programs to slowdown music. I would just use a different program. A google search turns up many, even one for the popular VLC media player.

I have a recording studio and don't use slowdown software myself so I can't say which one I like.
I have Band-in-a-Box and it used to come with a slowdown program but I don't know if it does anymore. I remember trying the program and it worked.

@firebird I guess that is my only option. I will download Riffstation Pro, which is free. It's a shame as I had been using Transcribe for so long, but it was becoming a pain to have to relocate all the audio files on my computer.

    Many thanks.

On the few occasions I've needed to change the speed, pitch or tempo of an audio track I've used Audacity.

Audacity is good for that, but it doesn't have the advanced pitch correction tools apps like Riffstation and Transcribe do, which is what I rely on a lot. They also have built in chord recognition too.
