Try restarting the windows update service by right clicking it and choose restart

Thanks, this helped me too! Not identical problem, but similar. When I was using Windows 8 I had disabled all Office (2013) updates. Now after the upgrade to 10 I bit the bullet and installed ALL of them. On my really slow connection here it took forever, but most of them completed. Then it just got stuck on update kb3085480, it never moved at all past 0%, but never said it had failed or let me try again or search again, and this persisted through numerous reboots.

I downloaded the update manually and installed it, and nothing changed on the update screen after more reboots, and it did not list the update in my update history, and wouldn't let me rescan. Then I followed this advice and it gave me the notice that the update had failed, allowed my to rescan, and once doing that it acknowledged everything is up to date.

(Why this didn't happen automatically upon the various reboots, including full shutdown, I am not sure, since that similarly stops the service....)
