What is the most basic video editor outside of Widows Movie Maker?

    Hello, I'm new here.

I managed to re-install movie maker 6.0 onto my Windows 10 laptop, but some of the features have ceased to work. What are some easy-to-use video editor alternatives that are good for beginners?

Movie Maker 6.0? That must be a very old version. (edit: dates back to Vista, I have now found out.)

I use Movie Maker 2012 in Windows 10 and that seems to still be fully functional. Although you can no longer download 'Windows Essentials 2012' from Microsoft (the package which included Movie Maker), MiniTools offer a repackaged download of just Movie Maker 2012.

Welcome to use Windows Movie Maker

If you want 'basic' then why not try MIcrosoft's advice and use Windows 10's Photos app, now with video editing capabilities included.

Windows Movie Maker, part of Windows Essentials 2012, is no longer available for download. Websites that offer free downloads of Movie Maker are not offering the real thing, and those downloads may contain malware, viruses, or hidden costs.

Instead, try making movies with the Photos app that comes with Windows 10. The latest version of the Photos app includes the ability to create and edit videos with music, text, motion, filters, and 3D effects. Visit Microsoft Store for more video creation and editing apps.

There are now many online video editors that provides basic video editing features such as ClipChamp, and Clideo. While for desktop, BeeCut, Avidmux, and Movavi are some of your choices.

The standard Photos app has a video editor - have you tried that? I also have Movie Maker which is this version and works fine:
    Attachment 273970
You can still find downloads of Windows Live Essentials 2012 e.g. Download Windows Live Essentials 16.4.3528
Fortunately, I archived the last version from Microsoft's site a while ago.
