    About File Associations Re: 1803

So I have seen plenty of what appear to me to be somewhat complicated fixes that I do not quite understand most dealing with the registry

    https://p0w3rsh3ll.wordpress.com/201...-associations/

so I was wondering if there is anything new out there that is for dummies.

Came across this simple suggestion and wonder if you think it will work (not home now)

    https://superuser.com/questions/1291...e-associations

What I have discovered is much easier. I save the file, that isn't opening correctly, to the desktop. I then right click on the file and choose ''open with'' it then prompts a menu that you must check the box that says ''always open with this program'' then you scroll down to the bottom of the list and you will see ''find another program on this pc'' choose that. It will then take you to the c drive and into the 64bit program folder. If you need to get to the programs 86x you'll have to back it out to the c drive. Then you just drill down into the folder of the program you need to associate it with.

For example I want to associate all image files with FastStone Image Viewer though as you all well know each time I do it it does not stick.

    Thanks.

    Hi, that's just one way.
Choose Default Apps in Windows 10 | Tutorials

I understand the problems that applied to setting defaults arising from a bug e.g. in 1803 had been resolved by a fairly recent update.

Note too that MS, in moving default app settings to Settings from the Control Panel has removed certain very useful features.

Have just upgraded to 1809 - whilst this reset the default for pdf to Edge, and one quirk in Settings for Photos (greyed out) after the upgrade, defaults seem to be respected.

Whattttttt! I thought you were a die hard 1709'er for life : )

How To Modify Scorched Policy When It Comes To Win 10 Updates

"I use 1709 as you can see, set up as above. Somewhat to my surprise I've not been offered 1803 or 1809 although I suspect it's past the 365 days."

If it is not to forward of me why the sudden switch? Have you been bespelled : )

It seemed the major issues had been overcome. I avoided the 1803 issues completely, and the initial issues of 1809 - and in particular all the file association problems. Even during the life of 1709 changes to the C Panel occurred.

With Aeroglass having been updated to 1809 (an 'essential' issue before I upgrade) and the 365 days expiring, I thought I'd update my disk image to guarantee a way back, upgrade, and see what it looked like. Some hiccoughs upgrading before it succeeded, but seems ok so far.
