    How to uninstall or deactivate Paint 3D?

    A couple of weeks ago I did a system reset. There had been a few problems which Tweaking Com's software couldn't fix. I ran it a second time as suggested but that didn't fix everything. So I did the reset.

    Since then I have two new surprises.

    1. The system ignores my default program choice for opening jpg files. It used Photos until I uninstalled it. It now tries to use Paint 3D. I can't uninstall it. Is there a way to disable it?

    2. The font on some screens - this forum is one of them - is displayed in a mixture of normal and bold characters.

    Here's a couple of screenshots .....

    Oh, that's small. I'll see if I can do a better one.

    Most odd. What causes this ?

    Tell me how you get that screen. I have Classic Start Menu installed.

    Wheel-click or right click the Start Button.

    Sorry, I don't know what you mean by a "wheel-click". Right clicking the start button doesn't help me, I can't see anything there which might help.

    If I go to "Apps" in the start menu, Paint 3D is listed. I right click on that and I have the option to uninstall. Having done that, it disappears from the list. But when I click on a jpg image it is displayed in Paint 3D again, and it is also again in the list of "apps".

    Usually 'middle-click' or 'mouse wheel click' will open the default Windows 10 Start Menu, overriding the Classic Menu.

    Ok, thank you Edwin. Depressing the mouse wheel does nothing I'm afraid.

    I started to look for the folder with all the unnecessary toys in (the "apps") but I don't have "permission" to open the folder if interest.

    I had permission for this sort of thing before the reset, but that has disappeared. I can't take ownership, whatever it's called, now.

    I shall have to do a bit of searching to overcome these annoying limitations. But that's for tomorrow, it' past 2 in the morning and I have to get up early.

    Hi,

    Did you restart your machine after the uninstall?

    You might need some help from this tutorial: Uninstall Apps in Windows 10 and check out the tutorial right before the contents: How to keep apps removed from Windows 10 from returning during an update

    You may need this and the related tutorials for later: Choose Default Apps in Windows 10

    What program do you want to be the default to open a jpg?

    You can use the assoc and ftype commands to set it to what ever you want. For instance, in a Elevated Command Prompt (not sure it has to be Elevated but doesn't hurt), when I type:

    assoc .jpg I get
    .jpg=jpegfile

    ftype jpegfile I get
    File type 'jpegfile' not found or no open command associated with it.

    So I want IrfanView to be my default program, which is actually C:\Program Files (x86)\IrfanView\i_view32.exe, so I enter
    ftype jpegfile=C:\Program Files (x86)\IrfanView\i_view32.exe %1, %*

    Now when I enter
    ftype jpegfile
    I get
    jpegfile=C:\Program Files (x86)\IrfanView\i_view32.exe %1, %*

    Now when I double click on a .jpg or right click and select OPen, Irfanview is the program that opens it. You can replace IrfanView with any program you want to use.

    Yes Anak, I did restart after uninstalling it. I have tried again but it keeps coming back.

    I've also tried the relative advice (at least I think it was relative) in those links.

    The best I've got so far is to click on the jpg I want to display. I am then asked "How do I want to open this .jpg file?" and then have to click the required program (Paint Shop Pro 7).

    Thank you Ztruker, You can see how far I got above.

    I'm stuck. Perhaps Microsoft will eventually get it sorted out.
