Why doesn't this program start up at Windows Launch?

I need to get this program, Retrospect, which is a backup program, to start up automaticly when Windows boots up. So I followed suggestsions I found doing a search.

Here is the ProgramData folder for Retrospect:

So I followed instructions and copied the shortcut for Retrospect to the Startup folder:

Skype and OneNote start up, as always. But Retrospect does not. So what am I doing wrong, or what issue do I need to track down?

Hi, this appears to be the program you cite:
Retrospect: Data Protection for Small Businesses

    Suggest you contact their support:
    Retrospect: Customer Support

Is there not an option in the program to determine how or if it runs on startup?

Have you seen this program run at all? What does double clicking either shortcut achieve?

Are you expecting the program to start some automatic backup routine? What are you expecting to happen?

You've added the shortcut to the All users startup folder.
    You might try
    C:\Users\...name....\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

    - although either should be valid.

Note: a convenient way to manipulate the start menu is to install Open Shell start menu (free) - even if you don't use it as your start menu- supports drag 'n drop. Used by many here.

Well, I had an issue with Retrospect, and their support people told me to add Retrospect to my Startup Menu.

I just did a check on the Startup folder that contains the Retrospect short cut, and it was my userID. The All Users folder is not accessible to me, even though my account is Administrator level.

I just checked out Open Shell, and it seems like a nifty utility, but that doesn't address my need here. I already have a shortcut icon for Retrospect on my desktop, so it's easy to start Retrosepct up manually. What I'm seeking is a way for Retrospect to start up automatically when Windows boots up, because of issues with Retrospect using its own service to start up automatically.

You need to consult the authors and support for that program. It's not one I'm familiar with, and sorry, I'm not going to try installing it.

The point about Open Shell here is that it conveniently exposes the Start-up folder for you:

Clicking either Open option opens the relevant folder in file explorer.

    Again:
Is there not an option in the program to determine how or if it runs on startup?

Have you seen this program run at all? What does double clicking either shortcut achieve?
If double clicking the shortcut doesn't start the program, adding it to the startup folder (rather old-fashioned these days I suppose) isn't going to help.

And if the program doesn't start like that, the problem lies elsewhere.

If Retrospect needs Admin permission to run then Windows will ignore its shortcut during startup.

There are ways of tricking Windows into co-operating.

Create Elevated Shortcut without UAC prompt in Windows 10 | Tutorials

    - here's the relevant tutorial.

If you see a UAC prompt (you have UAC enabled) when you try to launch the program from the shortcut (hence my question from post #2) you would need to follow that.

I think that you and Dalchina have isolated the core issue here. Later today I will follow both your suggestions and report back.

Replies like yours and Dalchina's is why I wrote the .sig I did.
