Converting Word DOC to Ebook using calibre

    Hi
I have a lengthy word DOC, which I want to convert to a EPub Ebook. It has several embedded video links to online video.

the links work perfectly in Word, but the converted Ebook just has black windows where the video links were. I also tried acrobat Pro with the same results...

    Any help please ?

    thanks

Try converting the DOC file to HTML and look at the HTML code to see what happened to the video links.

You can convert the DOC file to HTML directly in Microsoft Word.
Then try doing the same conversion in Calibre. Compare the treatment of the video links in both HTML versions.

If the Word conversion to HTML does what you want but the Calibre conversion to HTML doesn't, you can always fix up the Calibre conversion to HTML manually with any text editor so it works like the Word conversion.

I converted to html and was the same.....converted html to ebook with calibre and still the same result.

didnt think it was this difficult , ‘wrongly’ assumed the embedded video links would simply transfer across, this can’t be an unusual requirement.....can’t do it manually after as there are quite a few videos inserted

How are you reading the converted eBook?

Bear in mind that eBooks were intended to be portable--the lowest common denominator across platforms.

Some eBook readers can't display embedded video.

When you embedded the videos in the Word document, which video player plays them? Obviously you can't count on Windows Media Player being available on all eBook platforms. I read eBooks on an Android smartphone myself. So you'll have to go back to Word and change how the videos are intended to be played.

In word the video opens the link to the original video e.g. YouTube etc...
i opened the ebook in calibre viewer plus another ebook app which I don’t remember.......
really had no idea this was so difficult, even tried creating a PDF with acrobat PRO with the same result......
