Cannot install program, "Error 1327:Invalid Drive: E:\"

Hello,

When I try to install LibreOffice I receive this error message: "Error 1327:Invalid Drive: E:"

The problem arose in these circumstances:

LibreOffice had been installed on a microSD card and was functioning normally. One day on attempting to open it I got the above error message. I removed the microSD card, reinserted it, and tried again. Same result (Invalid Drive: E), even though now the microSD card was listed in the file manager as Drive D. So, figuring the drive must have been corrupted, I reformatted it. Then I tried to install a new version of the software on the microSD card, with the same error. Finally I tried to install it onto the computer's main HD (Drive C), but the installation is aborted with exactly the same error message (Invalid Drive: E).

Please note: I am now trying to install onto the main on-board hard drive, NOT the microSD card. But somehow the computer thinks otherwise, and the error message refers to the now non-existent "Drive E".

What can I do to get over this?

Hi, I imagine there are a lot of registry entries relating to you installation on drive E:

You would need to remove these and any other items related to Libre Office on your system drive.

To do that you might try Revo Uninstaller, however only the Pro version allows you to start from remnants of installed programs, which might be a function you would need.

Such uninstallers usually try to run the normal uninstall sequence first- in your case, that may not work. There should then be a scan for leftovers.

If your MicroSD card's contents have not been overwritten, you could arrange to insert it as E: by first inserting some other USB drive, for example.

There is a useful trick to know- I don't know if it works with SD cards- it does with USB drives- and that is to use Disk Management to allocate a specific drive a drive letter normally never used otherwise. Then, each time the drive is inserted it is allocated the same letter. Limit- 1 drive per letter.

As Dalchina said try to allocate the drive letter E: to that SD card again in Disk Management ( see: Windows Tip: Assign Permanent Letters to Removable Drives) and see if the installer then works. If it works, and you wish to install LibreOffice on the hard drive; use Revo Uninstaller to to unistall from the SD card and hopefully it will remove all references to the E: drive, after which you can proceed to install on your main drive.

It's too late for the OP in view of the stated intent right now, but the original predicament demonstrates the hazards of "installing" software to a removable drive. The OP would have been much better off using the portable version of LibreOffice, which does not hard-code drive paths into the registry .... unless the need for "open with" links was an over-riding factor the first time around.

Thank you all. I didn't have to use Revo. It was sufficient to assign the drive the letter E, then I could successfully uninstall the old LibreOffice, and install the new version on the main HD.
