    WINTOUSB now effectively only paid versions available (windows 1809)

    Hi there
    Any Wintousb users -- great product but the bad news is that for Windows release 1809 it's gone pay only - the free version continues to work for windows release 1803 and earlier but if you want to use this product with windows releases 1809 and higher (when they appear) you now have to get a license.

    Shame but there we are - a lot of people are trying to monetise what were free products these days -- shame but it's a commercial planet so can't really blame the developer.

    Alternative is Macrium with VIboot. Not quite as convenient but it works.

    Cheers

    Hi there

    @CountMike
    shows clearly that 1809 isn't supported in the Free version.

    Incidentally none of the features work in 1809 with the free version - you just get message 1809 isn't supported in this edition of Wintousb.

    29 USD isn't a lot for this type of product if you like running windows from external devices but it's always a shame when a good free product turns paid or becomes so hobbled it's not useable any more.

    I like having different Windows versions (and languages) for different jobs - and with a laptop with fast USB 3 using an external SSD gives really good performance too so I used this quite a lot very successfully.

    I'm experimenting now with VIBOOT as well as a small Linux system which will include a windows VM - for what I want windows to do a VM will work just fine and linux boots easily enough from external SSD. With 500 GB external SSD I might have 4 or 5 Windows VM's - although not running all concurrently (against EULA - can run 1 at a time on this machine).

    Cheers

    Try again with larger USB / external SSD - it won't work as I've already tried. You'll get the 1809 message next.

    Depends on, what extra features you need, Rufus or YUMI should suffice for basics.

    Hi there

    That's a totally different requirement.

    What wintousb does is allow you to boot 100% windows installation from a USB drive which is a 100% clone of your current windows installed on your internal HDD/SSD. The Wintousb created SSD / external device will run windows entirely from the external device even if your internal HDD is totally trashed or even if there isn't one at all - and it's a full windows just like standard windows where you can run and install standard windows applications, not a PE type of thing etc.

    Cheers
