Problems with alcohol 120%

I got the same problem. It's a windows update, specifically this one: "November 13, 2018—KB4467702". Uninstall it & you'll be able to create a virtual drive again. The problem is Windows will automatically update & install this update over & over unless you disable auto-update in registry.

That's the November cumulative update. Going back to the October 2018 one and never ever installing another cumulative update is not really a practical solution (or safe, no more security fixes).

Why on earth do you need this software any more -- ever since Windows 8 Windows has built in Virtual drive -- just click on the ISO with File explorer and it will mount automatically as DVD / CD .

Also you can mount multiple isos -- not sure what the limit is but I've had 3 concurrently mounted.

TOR still works !!!!! also plenty of legal software around to rip DVD's etc to iso's. I've ripped / de-regionalised all my DVD's and Blu Ray's to isos and they play perfectly with VLC / KODI. I store them on a NAS server and no probs playing in Windows, on remote TV's, phones, amazon fire tv box etc. DVD's as isos also enable menus, subtitles etc etc, I've plenty of space so no need to convert to mkv / mp4 either.

Haven't used or needed alcohol 52% or alcohol 120% since Windows 7 days.

@swarfega -- UK is still in EU so EU law will apply -- at least until 29 Mar.

So long as you use the data as archive or for your own use I don't think any court the planet -- at least those courts in what one would normally euphemistically label Democratic Countries would have any issue whatsoever.

I don't think there's much if any case law around on people ripping DVD's for their own use -- now if you upload those files to --well we all know what those sites are, or obtain from those sites then that is another issue.

Also has anybody been prosecuted yet for playing a legally purchased DVD on a computer with say VLC which overcomes any regional encoding or similar software players. If I buy a DVD in USA why shouldn't I play it on my own laptop at home --- you don't buy a book say in USA with proviso you can't read it in Europe !!!!

Piracy is one thing but playing / enjoying content you've paid for on your own devices -- absolutely no problem with that whatsoever and if it means removing DRM so be it, and I've yet to see court cases where individuals are involved -- especially if they are using their own DVD's etc and not re-uploading to torrent sites etc.

Perhaps Australian users of Spotify will now get their music played backwards or upside down too if the music was composed in N.Hemisphere !!!!

Apparently the UK High Court did have an issue with it...

The private copying exception ... was first introduced in the UK on 1 October 2014 by the Copyright and Rights in Performance (Personal Copies for Private Use) Regulations. However, following a judicial review filed against the UK government, on 17 July 2015 the High Court quashed the regulations introducing the exception. As a result, the private copying exception is no longer part of UK copyright law
