    Media Server Software

    Hello!
I have been using my pc as a Media Server from my Sharp Smart Tv. However it is very hit and miss.
Like this morning, first of all the TV couldn't see the pc as a server, then after a couple of minutes it could.
Then it could see the directories but not the files, then after about half an hour it could see everything. Does anyone know of a server software that is easy to set-up and reliable.
I have tried Serviio, that seemed easy to install and set-up, but it wouldn't play some of my home movies made with Adobe Premiere. It also said that some of my pictures were "unsupported Files". I tried Universal media Server, but that just wouldn't start very easily, however when it did start it seemed ok! I also tried Plex which on first impressions seemed good, but the interface was so full of things I didn't need. For example: open up videos and there are about 15 folders for year, genre etc. Serviio was good in that it let me delete the folders I didn't want, but I couldn't find the set-up for videos, so I could change how Adobe builds them to match.
Casting to the tv isn't the answer either as my pc and tv are in different rooms and if I cast photos I've missed at least two by the time I've got to the right room.
    Cheers,

    Hello @enfield250

I suggest you try plex again, i use it and i have no issues with 15 folders ect.
If you need help setting up plex properly & correclty i don't mind helping you out.
Also you should use the Plex app for your smart tv, not sure if you did that...

    xTL,
Thanks for the suggestion, I have reinstalled Plex.
I can see the server and lots of directories but, no files.
I have looked for an app, but their doesn't appear to be one for my TV.
I went into the apps menu on the tv typed in plex, and it bought up 30 videos but no apps.
    Cheers,
    Colin

I would try Kodi. I have a Raspberry-Pi mini computer acting as a media player connected to my TV with my media files stored on NAS. Kodi also has a UPnP server built in which your TV might be able to pick up as a media server. Kodi can be downloaded from kodi.tv or in the Microsoft store. I prefer the downloaded program myself, rather than the Windows 10 app.

Hi Colin, so apparently for some wierd reason plex never made an app for Sharp smart tv :/
I assumed there was one, my bad man.

May i ask what model ur tv is?
I read here that sharp tv comes with build-in chromecast, and if you have that on ur model,
then it's really easy to use plex with a nice interface.

    xTL,
My tv is a Sharp LC-50CFG6001K, I purchased it last Christmas time.
It has Miracast and Media Server (DLNA),
Apparently some Sharp Tv's have Roku, but mine doesn't.

Getting a bit fed up with this now!
Perhaps I should buy a 2tb usb drive and load all my media onto it and plug it straight into the tv.
