Beware of Minitool Partition Wizard Bearing Threats

I've been using Minitool Partition Wizard (MPW) 10.2. Today I let it auto update to 10.3 but Defender stopped the update and found a 'virus' to quarantine (see below).

I worked out this is because McAfee software is bundled with the installer. I downloaded the full installer which triggered the virus alert again but I said no to the McAfee software licence. MPW 10.3 then installed OK.

I've left a support request with MiniTool stating my opinion of their shambolic update software.

It is almost certainly a false positive. There is nothing wrong with it if downloaded from official site.

    Hi there

Always check "extra offers" etc etc -- if something is bundled with the official installer then I'd look for something else.

There has always been a tendency for some products to confuse downloader with green arrows etc etc while keeping the actual download link to the software you want quite confusingly hidden so READ carefully and don't willy nilly click on links.

Personally I prefer AOMEI partition manager but YMMV. Again though worth repeating - on any download always read the link carefully so you know what you are actually downloading - the real link can be hideously obfuscated in the thread -- and check carefully for boxes offering any "extra" or trial software.

Usually the main / official site is fine - but not always so just check.

Even if downloading stuff from say Microsoft - a bit of due diligence and care is never wrong.

    Cheers
